Orange Broadband?

I’m considering the Orange broadband and phone package, although looking at the feedback I’ve seen there doesn’t seem to be many positive reviews.
I had a guy from orange on the phone last night doing the ‘soft sell’, he said that the line speed he could measure on my line was actually 17Mb? My concern is that my current provider offers up to 20Mb like most do now but typically we get between 5 and 8Mb.
From what I read most are getting worse with Orange than their previous ISP. Does anyone have good experience with orange broadband ?

5 to 8MBps is 'up to 20Mbps'.
What does a samknows exchange mapping give you as an indication of speed? Or use the BT checker, since all you are buying now with Orange is a resold BT Wholesale product.
And their CS is dire, it isn't called Horange for no reason...No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks, Fully aware 20Mb is max, the Plusnet (current ISP) speed tests give me the 5-8 not tried samknows. Not sure why he thought from the phone line he could see potential of 17? He started talking about ASDL 2 or something etc. Anyway I think I'll leave orange alone it was a hassle to change and the risk of poorer service is too high.Regards

Both Plusnet and Orange will be using the same BT Wholesale service, so the speed should be no different. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Did the Samknows check last night it showed ASDL 7.5Mbps, so what I'm currently getting with Plusnet is about right. Orange would be cheaper (£10 a month less) but I don't think worth the risk or the hassle to set up etc...Regards

Just a subtlety:
What service does the 7.5Mbps estimate pertain to?
A line that can get 7.5Mbps on ADSL1 ("Up to 8Mbps") might just be able to get 15Mbps+ on ADSL2+ ("Up to 20Mbps") - which corresponds with the potential for the 17Mbps in the opening post.
One possibily is that Plusnet are supplying an ADSL service, and if you asked them to upgrade you or moved to another supplier which can do the ADSL2+ service, you might see that speed increase.
To be certain on this - if you can find and paste in the statistics from your router (Attenutation, noise margin, modulation type especially) others can see what the line is capable of.0 -
That's what I wasn't following he mentioned something about ADSL2 and that he could see 17Mbps? Good point about checking with current ISP Plusnet what they can do.
I'll look into the statistics from router this weekend not sure where that is but I'm sure I'll find it?Regards
