  • Thanks everyone, I sent my package off and have received an email to confirm everything has been accepted - books, cds, cd singles, games, dvds and a cheque for £73 is on it's way :) - so far I am very happy with them.

  • I tried them based on the mixed reviews I read here, but no cheque yet. Sent my stuff at end of Jan, just received an email though letting me know they were rejecting some books due to poor quality, 11 out of 34, but some were brand new unopened books so I'm not sure what's happened there. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and see if they were damaged in the post, but a bit annoyed at all the rejections. If I had listed them on ebay I would have called them very good or some like new, granted some were only good but I still thought they would take them. If you are thinking of sending stuff there I would only send them like new condition, i'll post again if I hear anything about my rejected NEW book.

hey, i know we are talking about zapper but in case anyone wants to use webuybooks.co.uk i thought i would share my thoughts!

webuybooks - i used them about a month ago. i swear they just took books in not too long ago, as i had some cds and dvds that i still haven't done anything with, as webuybooks didn't take them before! but today i logged on and they take cds and dvds and blu rays now :) oh and games too.

so, i had some old (well, they were new but i have had them about a year and not done anything with them!) italian text books. i had four in total. webuybooks.co.uk offered me about £13.50 for two, which i thought was very good. the good thing about this site is that there was not a miniumum order! i think zapper is 25 items and musicmagpie is an amount, say £10 or £15 (sorry i can't remember!). webuybooks has a minimum of £15 but there is a button you can click saying if you don't meet this amount you can have slightly less to make up for P+P costs, i clicked it, thinking they would offer me about £5 but they still offered me £12.62! I was very pleased with this!

Anyway I sent my two books off on a Thursday, the Friday after (so pretty much a week later), a cheque turned up for the full amount.

I was very happy with this service! I am not sure how competitive they are for CDs but the books I had were offering me £7ish for the 2 books on Zapper, and £3 for one on Fatbrain (and the other they wouldn't take!)

    Hope this helps someone xxx

Has anyone else used this service pointed out by Mrs.Way ? Thanx in advance. :)
  • They have their place as do all sites that buy things, i use a wide variaty of sites to make sure i get best value, magpie buy rubbish cd's for £3.00 each whilst they offerd me £10 for a MIB Xbox 360 which i know is worth 10x that but you have to remember 99 times from100 times the place you are selling these items to are trying to return a profit themselves. like wise alot of people who buy on Ebay will resell on everyone has to make their bit that's what makes the world go round!!
  • Hi all, well I have used zapper 3 times now and webuybooks a couple of times and music magpie about 3 times. My synopsis is this:-

Zapper take more books on average than webuybooks, but they need to be "like new" or they reject, they were very slow on checking and payment each time I used them, but I was expecting this second time around, roughly I waited 3-4 weeks each time from posting my items.

Webuybooks were excellent on service and didn't reject any of my items, I try to use them as my first choice when I can, but they don't take as many items as zapper. I only had to wait about a week for my cheque and they offer other payment options.

Musicmagpie are also good, but actually payment took longer than webuybooks - no rejections yet though.

So all in all you need to tailor which company you use to the items you have and incidentally when I complained about my new book being rejected to zapper, they told me my perception of good quality must have differed from theirs. Giving them the benefit of the doubt I said it must have gotten damaged in transit then as it was new, they replied that they didn't think so. As it was only 30p I thought they would have refunded me as a goodwill gesture but no luck there and I didn't complain about all the others they rejected as I accepted it didn't meet with their quality requirements. So I put this down to one rude member of staff and tried them again. As I said, good to use and they take more books than others but they are slow and I wouldn't send anything even with a crease on the cover!

I hope this helps people decide what to do. I haven't tried any of the other companies yet, if anyone else had their feedback would be appreciated.
  • Hi, just a quick question ... if these companies reject your goods, do they return them?

    Thanks x

Hi I checked on webuybooks - they don't return items they reject
  • Lots of stories of rejecting nearly new books/dvds. They recycle ie they sell them make money from items you have given for free. Seems like a bit of a con.
