Debt recovery plus

I've just received a Notice of Intended Litigation from this company, telling me that if I don't pay £150 within 7 days, they may issue County court proceedings against me.
My 'crime' was to park in a free retail park, and leave the site for a few minutes although I did spend money in the shops and sent my receipt to Premier Park .I I also asked them for their proof that I had left the retail park,as it was raining heavily at the time ,plus there were no signs informing me about their ' no leaving the car park 'rule at the car park entrances.
Does anyone have experience of this company ,and know if I should take this threat seriously ? It's quite scary and makes me feel like paying up.

    Yes
should I take this threat seriously ?
    No.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Don't pay and carry on ignoring them! What makes you think you owe a PRIVATE company any money for parking in a FREE car park.

Read the sticky's and watch the BBC Watchdog clip and look at the posts on this board. The advice is always to ignore private parking companies!

Strange how they say "may" rather than "will" don't you think ? I'd bet my mortgage they don't have the guts to do so !!!! Just ignore them.

Just ignore. Templated letters that were also sent to 50 other people around the country this week shouldn't scare you.

The threats and feeling of "I'm the only one" is the kind of tricks they play to scare the gullible into paying.

Welcome to MSE - you have dodged a scam but PLEASE stop replying to them!

Whne you come to a new forum, always read the sticky info threads at the top of the board you are about to post on:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163

Top sticky (permanent info) thread shows DRP letter-chain in pics so you can just play snap till they stop sending letters. And another sticky, 'Welcome, please read before posting' tells you these fake PCNs are unenforceable and has a link to Watchdog on the matter.

Relax. Tell your friends about this scam. Nothing else happens.

  • just got the letter for intended litigation. My mum is the registered owner of the vehicle, but i was the one using the car at the time, i had parked , gone into my friends flat to get the permit, came out and had the ticket from UKPC! I appealed as i had literally been minutes to get permit, explained to UKPC that my friend had just had a baby and couldnt be waiting on the doorstep for me to give me the permit, so i had to go in. i asked what there poicy was on allowing time to place permit....just recieved the standard reply that the charge was being made, but they said if i can send a copy of the permit they would look into the appeal. i did that, again standard reply, they were upholding the charge! i then folowed all of the advice on here to ignore all letters, they then found the registered owner of the vehicle, my mum, and now she is getting all of the letters even though they know it was me parked. But i have to say the letter from the debt recovery is very scary, especially for my 75 year old mum! it does make you think should we just pay up , but i feel so aggrieved as UKPC has completely ignored all of the questions i have raised and the mitigating circumstances. My mum is scared she's going to get a CCJ. Reassure me it is stil the right thing to ignore these letters, or should i contact the debt recovery and try and explain that its not my mum they should be writting to?

To get a CCJ the case would have to go to court (very unlikely) you lose ( very, very unlikely) and then you refuse to pay whatever the judge orders within 28 days. This is such a remote possibility that it's not worth worrying about. So just ignore these clowns
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Pointless perhaps, but you could try, in order to maybe deflect the threatograms away from your Mum and to you instead.

Firstly - DO NOT RING THEM! UTTERLY POINTLESS.

You could write to them and cite the BPA Code of Practice (about not writing to the wrong person once they know the registered keeper was not driving).

Tell them that all contact to Mrs xxxx will be deemed as harassment from now on and reported accordingly and that, as debt collectors, they would be breaching the OfT guidelines for debt recovery if they continue to contact the wrong person. All breaches will be reported.

Then I suppose it's up to you whether you finish the letter by saying 'and by the way it was me who was driving the car. Unless you pass this information to the original company and they then take steps to take me to Small Claims Court within 14 days, I will consider the matter closed'.

Hopefully then YOU will get some letters to ignore. End of scam.

    :)
