Crisis? What crisis?

Apparently one English company is doing so well that in this time of economic crisis it can refuse orders!

Having tried unsuccessfully to order some Christmas presents from Early Learning Centre via their web site I found myself blocked and unable to enter my card address as I happen to live in France. Hah, I thought, no problem - I will call them and place the order manually. No luck there either - I was categorically told they will not accept orders from foreign registered cards, despite it being a card drawn on an English bank, paid in Pounds Stirling and for delivery in UK. I was told it is against the law! New one on me!

I was told by the supervisor they are doing so well they can afford to refuse orders from non UK registered cards, in other words they are turning away business.
My flabber is totally ghasted.

Needless to say I am telling all my UK friends, family and fellow grannies! Save your money -you don't need to shop at ELC they are doing well enough without!

  • Probably due to the amount of money they lose from getting scammed from foreign cards (they probably lose enough from crooked English cards!).

Hardly worth telling all your friends about and certainly not something to overreact about.

Probably should be in the praise / vents / warnings forum as not a CR issue at all.

  • annoying for you but shops/companies are under no obligation to sell things to you. they can pick and chose who to sell to just as you can pick and chose who to buy from
Come on, it's not rocket surgery is it?
  • Sorry but it's their choice.

Shop elsewhere. ELC can't be the only retailer selling tat for kids.

They are also not the only retailer/provider to not accept cards registered at an overseas address. Indeed for some types of goods , the banks will automatically decline the sale for a non-uk registered card.

    Hi :)

I'll move this across to our warnings board as the best place for your post.

as an FYI - the reason they refuse is the lack of AVS - Address Verification System - UK is one of the few to implement and use it, and along with 3D Secure is the fraud guarantee the business needs to protect against loss.

Theres quite a few businesses who wont ship across the channel a sits not worth it in terms of getting scammed and the cost of delivery.
Why tell all your UK friends, family and fellow grannies, they can still buy from them. Sounds like the OP is throwing teh toys out of the pram.
