    Hi

If he leaves his job he will be sanctioned for up to 26 weeks (most likely the maximum). Although he can claim hardship if there is no other income coming into the family, that takes time. He can still claim for you and the kids, however.

Do you work? If not could you?

Is there any way he could do a second job part-time on a self-emplyed basis to build up his contact base before he goes self employed full-time?

  • Thank you so much. I will look into the self employer courses as I really think it would help him to see that one day he will be able to leave the company he works for.
I dont work! No I said before I could look into doing a part time evening job and would be more then happy to! I have thought about this anyway just to help clear debts but would be good aswell if it could give us a little more income to help save towards him getting out of his job?? My little one is only 6mths so havent really been able to do this just yet but he is sleeping a little better now so could start looking into it? I couldnt work inthe day as I have 3 little ones which would need full day childcare and 2 that are in school so would need after school care - which would cost faaarrrr to much and I dont think I would ever earn enough to cover them fees let alone earn some extra money for us.
I am going to look into some part time work today I think - even if I just get some temp work for over xmas time might help?

Dh has been signed off for 2 weeks (which will hit hard with the money as sick pay is rubbish) but I hope if he has a little time away to refresh his mind he might not quite be as bad when he has to go back. He also has to go back to the DR next week to review how he feels and has said they will then look into Anti Ds or counciling.

The second part time job to start up his self employed wont realy work as he work long hrs as it is (normally 5.30am he leaves and gets home about 6-7pm and works extra at weekends?) But worth looking into?

Thank you all once again for all replies. Best pud your right we do feel stuck in a rut :( But we WILL get out of it........... PMA?

So how much of the problem is the ludicrous hours? this certainly does not seem to meet the EU Directives, unless he has signed away his rights?

  • Thats the time he is out of the house. His actual work hrs are 7.30-4pm. But he often has to go to his yard (just over a hr away) and then often works in London so alot is spent in the Van. Sometimes its a little less if he doesnt have to go to the yard but its still 6am latest and 5.30pm earliest.....and more often the longer days. I think the long days dont help as does not being able to sleep :(

Will check out the link thank you.

we lsot our house and went bankdrupt earlier this year from plodding on for years.

so a good time to evalauate your lfie and financial outgoings to decide what you can actually afford.

we gave up our home as we did not get hb for owning our own home, i had to finish work on ill health and we went bankrupt finally after trying to cut back for years and never getting anywhere so eavaluate now before it is too late.

it is jsut a house and they are just material possessions it is not worth your or your husbands health. we are less stressed now and our energy goes into fighting dla/esa but not the other bills or just living life not existing.
