    Japanese companies never will

    Toyota always do.
  • A bit late but this highlights the need to extend a manufacturer's warranty out as far as possible. Many will do it for cars 2/3/4 years old, some for older cars.

    Toyota always do.

No chance at all with them normally, there's an awful lot of threads on enough forums about the way they wash their hands of any complaints.

You must just have been lucky, or had a case even they couldn't deny the existence of.

Are my calculations out or is the labour bill about £800 - sounds incredible for a turbo replacement ( unless it's an engine out job- unlikely?)?

NB A 2 year parts warranty is pretty good - most are 12 months

Really, so they havent upped the warranties of 3.0 litre Diesels to cover failing injectors and seals, or replaced many Avensis petrol engines due to excessive oil consumption, or warranted damage related to failed CHG on Avensis Diesels then.
100k and many years after the normal 3 years has expired in these cases, and there are many other problems they have put their hands up to and put things right.

Compared to the many well known problems of all other makes they are the standard bearer in customer care.

I'd be obliged if you could point me to where people are complaining about Toyota behaving like other makers, i'd like to read these complaints.

How did they let you down personally.

It might be worthwhile looking at section 22 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979. This covers durability of the product. To my mind the failure of a major component at such a low mileage is not acceptable.

Not sure of the sale of goods act will apply to you (did you buy it from the dealer?) but if it does you've in theory got the right to demand they do something about it for up to 6 years. Under the SOG you can claim if the item has become defected after an unreasonable amount of time. You certainly wouldn't expect a car to come up with £2k of damage at just over 3 years. Mitsubishi should last longer than just over 3 years. Their engineering is usually pretty decent.
  • Too many short journey's. You need to thrash it a bit every now and then.

Too many diesels fail the MOT because of excess smoke, A good thrash cures a lot of them.
It doesent just do short journys my wife works in brum and goes up the motor way 3 times a week! Also funny u should mention VW because thats exactly where the engine came from! Sale of goods act seems like the next step as I did buy it from a main dealer - it was an ex demo car. Just to keep you updated there was a link on the Email I received from them to Mitsubish UK facebook page and on there there was a section to contact Mitsubishi UK MD. So I emailed him Friday night with the details of the car and what I have been offered! To be fair he emailed me back 8:45pm the same night he has promiced to get back intouch with me Tuesday when he is next in the office so will keep you posted as to his response.
