Can't think of a 'main' pressie for my 11yo son.

As title says. He'll be 11 3/4 at Christmas and for the 1st time I'm stumped on what to get as his main pressie. He is mature for 11.

He already has xbox, wii, DS and an old PS (unsure if 1 or 2 - that he never plays on). He mainly plays on the xbox. He has his own tv in another room. He has a bike. I suggested ice-skates but he said no cos he has wide flat feet and is worried a growth spurt will make them quickly too small.

He outgrew lego a couple of years ago as he ahs never been a fan of doing the models, he likes to do his own creations. He moved onto k'nex which he still likes-but again only his own inventions, and has plenty of the basic bits. He had a phone for his birthday in March, so doesn't need a new one. He's not into clothes or footwear (for which I am very thankful;)) and not that bothered about music, apart from liking odd songs and classical music. He likes science especially if it's engineering based. Any ideas.

A trip to science museum? A science day out in London?

Does he need to have 1 big pressie though? Lots of years I never got one main pressie but lots of smaller items. A few games for the Xbox should soon add up. The science day out is a good idea. Subscription to New Scientist? Is he into any sports? Football top? England kit? If you're really stuck you can always give him some money for him to spend in a few years time when he is into clothes and trainers! He will be glad of it then!
  • Is your boy into tech - my son can't seem to be parted from his ipod touch for very long!

I asked him tonight about him having a few smaller presents instead eg some xbox games, but he said he'd like a 'big' present. We have already done/got a lot of the science suggestions, but it did give me the idea of looking at the national geographical website -the prices are all in $ though, is there a UK website? I also looked at the science museum website and there's possibly an idea there, so thanks for that.

Am still interested if anone has any other suggestions.
  • It really depends on your budget - how about an Xbox Kinnect if you haven't already got one....

Budget is anything from £50 - £120ish. Xbox kinnect was our original suggestion but I'm not sure DS would get much use of it as he doesn't tend to play the games where it would be used - according to hubby, I am not a gamester. :D He doesn't use the wii very much. When asked about it tonight DS said he was going along with the idea - that we suggested some months back cos he couldn't think of anything else.
  • How about the kinect for the xbox? Its a favourite in our family, poor choice of games at the start buy seems to be getting better now.

Or what about a good digital camera since hes into his gadgets.

    :o
  • I did see a TV show recently where the parents of a child with a stutter bought a "backstage" pass to a museum and spoke with the curator etc. Perhaps there is a Science museum somewhere that offers an experience?

Would he want a DS 3D if it's in budget? Or maybe Kinnect for the X-Box, both seem to have amazing technology that might appeal. I presume he has XBox live already?

Perhaps he might enjoy a starter kit of Warhammer, but it is a pretty expensive hobby to start.
  • He's probably ready for a full size drum kit...or maybe an electric guitar and powerful amp! :D
