BT vs Primus

After receiving Martin's weekly email today I am considering switching my BT home phone to Primus.
I currently pay £14.90pcm with BT which covers line rental and the evening and weekends call package.
Primus say they can do £7.99pcm for an identical product.
I rang BT to find out when our contract expires and they said they would give me a discount bringing my monthly bill down to £11.60pcm - that would remain the same after they increase line rental charges on 4th December.
Has anyone any experience with Primus? I am wondering whether it is worth switching as there wouldn't be a big saving per month but just wondered if anyone has had issues with Primus and if they make up their charges elsewhere!
Any advise would be welcome as usual!
Thanks.

I have used Primus for over a year now - they have been taken over by Planettalk. I get my bills in my e-mail in box and have had no bother from them. I am a light user however and don't pay for many calls as I am out at work daytime.0

Have read somewhere that primus charge £2.50 a month for caller display, where you can get it free from BT.....
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/48504123#Comment_48504123Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
BT charge £13.90 for line rental + £4 or somthing like that per month for free evening and weekend calls (note, there evenings start at 7pm, where as common sense tells you evenings start at 6pm).... and yes, you get caller ID.....
So pushing nearly £18 per month....
Primus = £7.99pm + £2.50 if u want caller ID....
Erm, time for Maths here me thinks!!
However, Primus C services aint the best in terms of ringing (sometimes wait 25 mins on hold to get through!)....
I'm with them, have been since Feb, and moved house snag free too....0 -

Unless this is a one off deal, Primus web site states £8.99/month not £7.99, plus the £2.50 for caller display, and doesnt include 0870/0845 numbers...BT can give evening and weekend calls for 'free' not the £4 quoted here , plus if you have the funds BT line rental saver (£120 upfront for the year) is 0.49p cheaper than primus and includes 0870/08450 -

No, you go via them, and it costs £7.99 for a 12mth contract.....
Tell em to take off caller ID (if u dont like who called u, just hang up ! )
Do a search for the landline number relating to 0845/0870 if u feel u need to ring these kind of numbers daily.....
And you really need to learn maths..... and facts. BT dont do a £120 for 1 year with free wkend/evening calls as a 1 off payment.. they only do £120 for the line rental... tut tut0 -

BT line rental saver £120 for the year paid in advance (£10/month equivilent)...
Nothing wrong with my maths chum, at time of my post you could still get the evening and weekend call plan for 'free' with a renewable 12 month contract, given OFCOM has decided that these type of deals are not allowed, then BT have obviously removed it and speaking of checking facts its £3/month not £4 as you posted so I'll check my facts and suggest you do the same0 -
you can still get evening and weekend calls for free for 12 months if you call and ask for it (it's weekends only on the website), but it's not automatically renewed anymore. so £120 pa total is still possible with bt provided you follow the stupid min 2 calls per month or 6/quarter rule to landline/0845 numbers during the evening or weekend.0

i just read that BT will now charge £14.60pm for line rental and £4.90 for evening/wkend calls package (£19.50 total per month) - !!!!!! !!!!!
I know everything is going up, but thats a lot of moolah !
Which makes me think, how does Primus work if they charge so little ?! i dont care, as i still pay £7.99 for line and calls
Could it be BT raising costs so they raise capital and build a new broadband network ?!0
