we spend about a grand on each of our children...aged 6 and 12....ill put my hard hat on now but if u have it spend it i say....we spend about this every year

Take your hard hat off Tessie - as you say, you have it - so you're allowed to spend it.

I don't have quite that much, so won't be, but my kids won't go without. They're only 5, so this i the first year of requesting 'branded' toys that cost more. We'll spend probably £200 each on them (but the value will be more, thanks to finding the best places to shops and tips learnt here!)

I'm sure your kids wouldn't go without if you had less to spend, and if you won't be piling up the debts to do so, then spend away.

This site may be geared up to money saving and i'm sure you are as game for a bargain as the rest of us. This site doesn't just intrest those with nothing to spend, or no budget to play with.
Always on the hunt for a bargain.

Always grateful for any hints, tips or guidance as to where the best deals are:smileyhea
  • I wonder how many of these presents are still in use after a few weeks - this is my criteria

    waste not want not
  • Hi all,
l have spent £66 on my 2 year old including stocking and everything. My parents always had a budget of £50 all in at Christmas which I found plenty. I only spend around £10 - £15 on family each and they do the same. My daughter probably gets the most now as only grandchild :-)

    Cards 21/50
    Gifts 11/20
  • We have spent £220 each on our 2 boys who are 5 and 3. It is slightly more than we usually spend because we got them both the leapfrog learning tablets (like a toy ipad) which accounted for a big chunk of the budget. They also have quite a bit of lego city (police station etc) and duplo, games, HM forces stuff, books and a couple of wii games.

I generally buy things all through the year, keep a list of what I have and put it in the loft. It certainly helps with budgeting. Most of the items I have bought were reduced in some way (argos 3 for 2, sainsburys and tesco sales and amazon when they had a good discount). I bought my 3 year olds main present in August when it was half price in toys r us and it has been back at full price since Sept. I really begrudge paying the full RRP on toys and I have saved a fortune shopping around.

I also Ebay toys that they have outgrown and add the money made from that to the toy budget. Decluttering and money making rolled into one
  • £25 on stocking plus about £150 each. Should I still be doing stockings for age 22 and 21 years ??? They think so LOL.

I still believe in Santa if I get a stocking, and i'm 36!!! It's all a laugh in our household, and we make sure there is an overall budget - in that if we get a stockinh, less is spent on the main present.

(Family get personalised things - such as a photo calendar, or a token gesture/gift - something they want, but don't want to buy for themselves) - Budget down, pleasure up!

Haha! Yep, they never think they are too old for stockings! My two eldest live away from home but because they come home for xmas they expect a stocking :rotfl:
  • We have spent about £160
So far we have got her
Early learning centre till £17 (should of been £22)
Leapfrog junior tag £12.50 (should of been £25)
    2 x leapfrog books £9.99 (should of been £19.99)
    Peppa and George books £9
Mamas and papas rocking Pollyanna pony £50 (should of been £75)
    Peppa pig annual £3.99
Tesco Building block £5 (should of been £10)
Peppa pig hat and gloves £6
Peppa cup that chocolate buttons in it £3
Peppa slippers £8 (should of been £10)
Peppa dressing gown £12 (should of been £15)
    2 x peppa pj's £20 ( should of been £25)

If I had bought everything at full price it would of been £223 so have saved nearly £70

We still have to get her sticking fillers but will just get a few peppa pig things.

I would love to do this Xmas eve hamper for her that you are all talking about. How do I do it? Would like to include the dressing gown and 1 set of the pj's we have already bought her.
  • spent loads when we just had one child, but now we have three, we are limiting ourselves to about 100 each. My kids probably won't appreciate it that they have at least half of what they had last year, but then the older one (8) is starting to understand the value of money and that we don't have any, i have been using cashback sites and community forums to earn extra vouchers/cashback, i am using these for gifts for the rest of the family, luckily i have managed to accumulate about £200-300 throughout the year, which is a life saver.
