I do pitta bread pizzas all the time for my two, they are known as "easy peasy pizzas" in our house. But when DS has a friend over i sometimes do a scone dough base which is also fairly easy although takes a bit longer.

I was going to suggest scone base too! I did that last time DS2 had his friend over for dinner & the friend couldn't eat it all be the time mum came to get him, so I boxed it up for him to take, but his mum & sister ate it in the car!

whizz one and a half mugs of sr flour with half a mug of tepid water and a splash of olive oil, you can cook this in a frying pan and grill the top or in the oven

Hi all thank for your replies, so many great ideas I am not sure which one to pick!!!

The issue with doing it with both kids, is twofold, firstly in my experience I have found that if you just bung them on a baking tray they don't cook through very well (may be my oven!!!), and end up soggy and doughy in middle when everything else is crispy and burning.

Because of this when we make it we put it on a preheated pizza stone, because we know our daughter and she is good at listening to instructions and understands the danger of hot things.

My concern is that the other child is not my child and I would'nt be willing be as confident in their ability to be careful and listen (and my ability to deal with two kids at once!!!) to risk a burn.

I think I might just do the baguette or maybe the scone base - really appreciate all the replies will report back!!!

    Thanks
  • They don't have to do the oven bit though - just the rolling...
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • use a proper pizza tray and you shouldn't have the problem of soggy base

Plain naan bread works well as a pizza base tho

Since making pizza dough and bashing it around, and picking your very own topping can be fun, and, since putting the pizza into the oven is the ONLY activity that may not be suitable for children of all ages...

..I'd be inclined to say that since the oven is very hot then I would do that bit.

I doubt you'll get an argument from the younglings - they've already had a load of fun... and have a yummy self made pizza yet to look forward to.

Tell them to stay at the table where they've been putting toppings on whilst you do the baking part on the hot stone. Let your daughter be the example as she knows what to do.
