I note that for around 260, you can purchase a split AC on ebay, which will be 200% efficient. (though may not work very well for those not in the south of england)0

I have a physics degree, so will that do. I also live in an eco house that needs minimal heat input and I have recently bought my third dyson hot. For us, it is a superb, safe and very efficient form of heating, The alternative for us is to light the wood pellet stove which will then pump the hot water around the house. This takes a 20 minute cycle to warm up to flames and another 20 minutes after switch off to cool down. We only need a boost of heat at the moment and in 15 minutes at 7 am this morning one dyson hot sent its heat out to the open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge. I also left the snug door open and it sent the warmth in there too. Then when it reached 20 degrees, it switched itself off
I have one handy on the landing and have only used it twice, set on 19 degrees. The third is for wherever it might be needed. The three combined give us a very versatile form of central heating. It was very hot in here a few weeks ago, so I used the dyson hot as a cooling fan and that is also very efficient at no cost as we have PV.
To say that dh and I are delighted with them is an understatement

Wow, that makes your post even more laughable. You have effectively bought, for £260, a better looking £10 fan heater. Three times. £780 for the same effect as a £30 outlay. Maybe you should have gone for that Economics degree instead.0 -

well actually I do study the markets and am knowledgable about TA and do manage my dh`s pension pot, which has increased year on year since I took over in 2006 ie 46% up since then. Our eco house is part of the great scheme, the cost of the heaters was considerably less than we get back in fITs. Who needs an economics degree? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
anyway back to dyson hot. I also love the safety factor ie no hot spots below it and fail -safe cut out if knocked and most of all, very safe when the grandchildren are around and better than inflation hit savings0 -
Ha! the juxtaposition of Economics and the Solar PV feed in tariff is precisely the reason the FITs have had to be prematurely slashed!0

You've spent almost £800 on 3 nice looking fan heaters. Could you possibly give us any indication as to what year in the next 3,000 you will break even on that expenditure? I bought a Vaillant combi boiler for less than you paid for those fan heaters. Fine if you like the look of them, like you say it's your money and your choice but please don't insult our intelligence by claiming they will save you money.0 -

Could you expand on this 'they are amazing' statement? I'm thinking more of you using your physics degree to explain in technical detail (get as technical as you like) with some quantative, as opposed to qualitative which is all you have supplied, analysis.
For example, just for the avoidance of doubt, do you think they produce any more heat than any other 1,3kW electric heater?
Also, one bit I couldn't understand in the blurb is the similarity of the heater with an aircraft jet engine. Do you think the technology, or any other aspect, is similar in any way? Any other physics graduates care to comment on this similarity?
Just one more point - did you pay the full retail price for your 3 heaters?0 -

Seems a bit expensive for what they do. Do they do anything else? They really should for that price. Having three seems a bit daft as well, especially if they aren't used. I'm confused :-/0
