If the police are now investigating then this really should not be discussed openly on a public forum or on facebook.

    That's absolutely absurd.

Hmm, two sides to every story.... I doubt this is the complete picture. I have every belief that Waitrose's response has been paraphrased and feel it's pointless to comment further unless we see the genuine response from Waitrose. Even then it's difficult to understand what happened unless we'd actually witnessed the incident.

Babyemily :- Did YOU witness this incident ?

It doesnt sound like she did, so only knows one side of the story.

If this does turn out to be as straightforward as posted then Waitrose really have made a big mistake........but with only knowing one side of the story it WILL make it sound worse than it is

    Absolutely.

It could range from someone snarling at the actions of a child who clearly has learning difficulties with little provocation and evoking a calm but determined response from the mother to someone at their wits end after being jostled and screamed at/around by out of control children making a calm request that induces hysterics in the mother.

Probably, of course, somewhere in between.

From the POV of the Waitrose staff they were probably simply trying to calm the situation down as quickly and quietly as possible. If the mother would not be placated and kept insisting that the police were called - over what they saw as nothing more than name calling - they may well have thought it best that she continue outside.

In reality it's almost certainly the case that both parties felt they reacted quite reasonably and that the other is making a mountain out of a molehill.

  • Sorry only now have time to update what I know on this.

Radojo: Yes the race of the child and mum were specifically mentioned.

Hibernian0: NO I did not witness the incident.

Leory: I agree with your point it is incredibly difficult to know anything with only one side to the story.

There has been a meeting arranged next week with the management of Waitrose and the mum involved.
The Police are now trying to identify the other person via cctv.
The mum does not want anything! There is alot on the Waitrose fb page saying she is a chav etc...after a free Christmas Dinner. She is not a chav after anything and nor is her son an ill behaved brat.
Most of the genuine people have stopped posting on that page as it has gone a bit nasty.
Apparently Waitrose ignored the mum when trying to complain but offered coffee and help to the woman who had shouted at them. This woman was heard by a number of people.

There is a different fb page with more information but I cant remember what it is called. I will look later.

I only know what I have been told but I have no reason to doubt it by the people who have told me. I have seen the distress caused to the little boy though which is terrible. He has no concept of what has happened he just knows his mummy was shouted at.

I will update when I know anything ( not what I read on anyones wall btw).

What's your involvement with this incident? Do you know either of the women? I'm guessing your friends with the woman with the child (as you've 'seen the distress caused to the little boy').

TBH, this probably will sound a bit mean but why are you bringing this campaign to MSE? It sounds like you want to have a moan about what happened to your friend but shouldn't that be kept private rather than splattered all over the internet? Let's face it, she's already been vilified as a 'chav' on facebook so what are you hoping to achieve here?

I don't understand how you think people here can help.

And I think you are bang out of order fluffnutter. I did not come on here to bring any campaign to MSE! This is the praise/vents board and I was having a wee vent at what has happened. Yes, I am disgusted by how that has been handled but I have never asked anyone on here to agree with me. In fact I have agreed with others who have stated there being two sides to every story.
No I am not friends with the mum I know her through SEN and SN provisions within the area. But I do have children who have had hassle for being ASD and I do think its horrific that this can and does happen but I dont want your help at all, I can assure you of that. Nobody made you read the thread. An opinion is fine , everyone has them but I find it frustrating when someone starts a thread and never comes back to it. I also find it annoying when people ask questions of an OP and never get an answer. All I did today was answer other peoples questions and update.

Much as I deplore racism (if that is the case here) I find it quite disturbing that the police are wasting their time trying to identify someone from CCTV for nothing more than shouting at the mother of a child whom they felt was misbehaving.

It's very difficult, nowadays to get the police to interest themselves in things such as vandalism, dangerous driving and theft (unless you are a supermarket - they always seem to be able to turn when they have a problem) and yet they can (apparently) start a time consuming investigation for name calling.

Oh Christ, you're one of those. Someone expresses an opinion that you don't want to hear and you go off on one. Of course 'nobody made me read the thread' but what a strange thing to say about any thread on a public forum. Would you have preferred it that people didn't read your thread? Or perhaps you do want people to read the thread... but only those who offer opinions that flatter you?

How in anyway could I be flattered by any reply to this thread??? Really what a strange thing to say.
