Where to holiday in Suffolk?

I used to work in Woodbridge. That is a really quaint market town and well worth a visit. Also had a holiday in Lavernham and that is really lovely.
Worked in Sudbury - not so great. Ipswich is ok for shopping. East Bergholt I think is where Constable Country is and has a very large church.
Would definately go on holiday in that area and definately fit in Southwold as that is absolutely lovely.
I am from Norfolk so very lucky to have Suffolk as a neighbour.
Let us know how you get on. xFootball Widow :footie:
Why are frogs so happy? They eat whatever bugs them!0 -
i live in mid suffolk, i would say town wise, BUry st edumunds is much nicer town to go to than Ipswich. Bury has " The abbey gardens, which always look absolutely beautiful in the summer, a lovely place to sit and eat a picnic, or have a coffee. The town itself does still have a lot of independent shops, which is a nice contrast to there recently built chopping complex that has all the usual suspects, debenhmas, newlook, fat face, etc. The parking there is also a lot cheaper than ipswich.
For picturesque villages, lavenham is particularly pretty, the houses and shops are mostly timber framed and the shops are generally gift shops.
seaside - southwold and aldberugh and picturesque, peaceful places with not a lot around. Dunswich is also a quite lovely peaceful national trust beach. That has " alledgidly" the best fish and chips ever. Although i think there are some quite good fish and chips in southwold and aldberugh too.
If you want somewhere with a bit more action, felixtowe is a little more comersionalised with several arcades, and a pier, that you can go on half of.
Lowerstowt has a gorgeous sandy beach, and a pier with arcades. and a town centre with chain stores.
Also much of thetford forest bordres suffolk as do the norfolk broads and great yarmouth.0 -
I would agree that the Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Orford areas are lovely for days trips and exploring at leisure...
Rendlesham and Tunstall forest are lovely walking spots with different length routes for all ages and there are many different paths to explore.
It is well worth a trip to Aldeburgh, even if just for the fish and chips and an ice cream from the parlour (closed on Mondays) afterwards. Thorpeness is lovely in summer with the beach and the meare on the other side of the road, where you can feed the ducks and swans or hire a boat on the meare for an hour or so. Orford castle is a good afternoon out if that is your kind of thing and a walk along the river wall and a pub lunch can be nice too. Snape Maltings is very pretty and there are a number of little shops to potter about in and a cafe and pub on site as well. Woodbridge is more commercial than it used to be, but again a walk along the river is nice and there are plenty of little shops still there too.
If you have children then there is Easton farm park, Jimmy's farm, Bewilderwood and Great Yarmouth all nearby.
I'd agree that Ipswich isn't the nicest looking of towns, but I would say that you are probably as safe there as you are in any other large town or city in the UK!0 -
If you like the beach then probably you would like Southwold and Aldeburgh. However, they are both pricey places
So if they dont suit for staying, there are places like Lowestoft which have more cheap and cheerful accommodation but if you are only using it as a base then you can still enjoy all Suffolk can offer.
Have a look on the Suffolk tourist board site.
