Or are you better off buying a separate sat nav device?

A pda or dedicated unit will give you a bigger screen (usually). Any phone running Symbian 60 or above (Nokia 6680, n70, n73, etc) or Windows mobile (most of the Orange spv’s or O2 pda type) will run TomTom if you get a Bluetooth GPS module.
I’ve just installed TT on my son’s 6680. The BT gps cost £45 and he’s got a fiver mount from Woolies and he’s very happy with it.

I have just bought a secondhand Orange SPV C500 which has a copy of Tom Tom loaded on it for £45 off a friend. Apart from the £2.22 it seems to have cost me to send one text I am very happy.

Buy a Holox bluetooth GPS receiver off ebay - cost me £34. Absolutely fantastic - picks up satellites whilst in my closed car ashtray and within the house. One of the main suppliers includes a list of phones that work with the Holox, so there you go.

I prefer this method because it worked out cheaper than a Sat Nav and the phone has other purposes - bespoke Sat Navs are no use unless being used for purpose.

Tom Tom can be downloaded for free but you will need a storage card - 256mb are very cheap now. If you decide to buy a licensed copy of Tom Tom it will cost you an arm and a leg.

    Hope this helps.

  • My phone has a built in GPS Receiver, the XDA Orbit is a great PDA/Phone/Sat Nav, if you buy it from O2 online it includes CoPilot maps etc.

    Best phone I've ever had!

Rhino666 I know you might be a bit tight, but software piracy is illegal!
  • I got a used MDA vario from Ebay. It's locked to T-mobile so I just stuck a PAYG SIM and use it for sat nav, wi fi and i/c calls

  • I run TomTom mobile 6 on my Nokia N80 and it works well. Obviously the downside of using satnav on a PDA/Phone is having to use a seperate bluetooth external GPS unit

I would never get rid of my TomTom 910 in favour of the N80 version, but its handy to have as a backup

Nav4All (https://www.nav4all.co.uk) is free and legal and will run on most modern phones. You just need a gps receiver which you can pick up off ebay for about £40 or Nav4All will sell you one for €69.50.

It's software is maybe not the best but it works.
