"MILAN (AFX) - BT Group PLC is interested in buying the UK operations of the telecommunications company Tiscali SpA, newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore said, citing financial sources.
BT is believed to have started informal talks with the investment bank Merrill Lynch to discuss the acquisition, it said.
Tiscali officially reiterated that its UK business is not up for sale, the daily said, adding, however, that the situation is fluid and some Tiscali managers would be open to selling the activity.
The UK business is worth about 700 mln eur, according to the paper, compared with Tiscali's capitalisation of about 1.1 bln eur."

Whatever anyone says about Tiscali, BT are far worse & want to maintain high monoploy pricing.
Not sure if BT even have combined Broadband/Telephone line deal.

BT are useless in terms of customer care they really dont give a XXXX about the people who pay for the over priced service. I have a feeling this move is in response to number of !!!!ed off BT customers waiting to leave BT or hanging on for Tiscali's inclusive line rental deal which seems to have been postponed (from Jan 07) when they realised how many BT customers might have swithced to Tiscali (now they say mid Feb 07). I bet it never happens BT wouldn't stand for it. Unless you have Sky/Homechoice etc BT will ALWAYS make a mint on the 'line rental' monopoly
Assume the position folks....they'll have us all over a barrell in the end:mad:0 -
