Getting out of Orange Broadband

I recently switched from Pipex to Orange Broadband ( :( ) and my speed has decreased from 6.2Mbps to 2.2Mbps and below. I signed up on the 17th of October and I'm wondering what my rights are in terms of cancelling the contract as I'm not happy with the service. I'd rather avoid the lengthy calls to distant call centres so will be trying this via email and good old snail mail.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Oh dear, the 25th of October, that's 15 days ago right?

    On a service-based contract (like broadband) as soon as you use the service then typically the cooling-off period is void.

    Have you contacted their tech support about this? They've probably got you on a very restrictive line management profile which they should be able to remedy. Post your router stats and we'll be able to advise better.

    I've sent them an email and received the usual auto responder. I'll ask about the profile I'm currently on and see if they can change anything, however I'm just unclear as to why the drastic change in speed. Its been worse in the evening than first thing in the morning, perhaps they're traffic shaping?

    Here are the stats from my router;
    ADSL Link                   Downstream                    Upstream
    Connection Speed 6080 Kbps 1123 Kbps
    Line Attenuation 42.5 dB 26.3 dB
    Noise Margin 6.0 dB 5.6 dB

    Stats are fine. http://kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php

    So any slowness must be congestion with Orange. :(

    So this morning I'm getting 5.61Mbps down and 0.94Mbps, that says to me they're limiting my bandwidth a peak times. This didn't use to happen in the evenings, in fact we used to stream radio from to the iPad to have six music on the stereo in one room whilst using iPlayer on the PS3 in another streaming an HD programme and still have enough bandwidth left for some web browsing.
