It won't cover wear and tear of an appliance.
Do you not have friends and family that will loan you some money in the shortterm?Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

Prey tell Oh! Great One. Since when has home insurance covered boiler breakdowns?Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
I don't know if this is of any help, but there's an advert being shown on TV which says you can get a new boiler for a deposit of £474 and then £17 per month. I've Googled it and here's the link:
http://www.help-link.co.uk/about/latest-offers.php?a=uk
I haven't read through it all, but if you could maybe borrow the deposit it may be an option?
Apologies if it's a rubbish suggestion, it's all I could think of to try to help.
Good luck!0 -
Look at the small print:
'To help make Help-Link's boiler deals even more affordable we can also offer flexible monthly payment plans, which will spread the cost out into manageable payments over either 36, 48, 60 and 120 months'.
So £474 plus £17PM over 120 months means a price of £2,514-and 10 years spent paying it off.No free lunch, and no free laptop

it might be worth trying to join one of the breakdown schemes. I'm not sure if British gas still do it, but a few years ago my boiler broke in the middle of winter and I couldn't get anyone to come and look at it as everyone was too busy or expensive on call out charges. I rang British Gas and was upfront about the boiler being broken, they signed me up to an agreement and came out and fixed the boiler. Hope you get it sorted soon.0

And charged you for the repair in addition to the cost of the maintenance agreement.0 -
Don't listen to this nonsense. When you sign up to these schemes (I am with Southern) the first thing they do is carry out an inspection and tell you what needs to be done before they will cover you. They will spot the broken boiler and refuse cover on it.
well when we signed up to british gas scheme a couple of yrs ago we never had an inspection on our boiler or central heating.
but we also never had anything wrong with it at the time.
we have since used the scheme 3 times when the boiler has not worked properly so would recommend it as they have always been effiecient and got it workingnow proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0 -
Bit of a longshot but have you tried to see whether your energy company offers anything? For example, British Gas Energy Trust can make discretionary grants for this sort of thing if you're their customer. Try Home Heat Helpline 0800 33 66 99 to get put through to the department of your energy company which will be most likely to know (often the general call centre staff have no idea what their own companies offer).
Otherwise, I agree with someone earlier that if you can put it on credit card, it's better to get in debt than risk your babies' health. Cold is not just a comfort thing, particularly for young children.
Also, not really answering your question, but you're probably eligible for free insulation for loft/cavity walls if you don't already have it. It won't fix your boiler but will keep your home that little bit warmer in the meantime. Again HHH can advise.0 -
