Do not use Mobile Exchange

I am very unhappy with the service I recived from Mobile Exchange. I chose them to sell an old iphone but found them unhelpful and the quote significantly less than was estimated on-line even for a damaged handset. This is in stark contrast to their nearest competitors.
It was never made clear to me that I would have to pay £10 (well over the odds even for recorded delivery) for the phone to be returned to me if I wasnt happy with their reduced quote.
Most of their competitors promise to return it free of charge. This cost is disproportionate to the cost of returning the phone. I believe this was buried in the terms of conditions.

Well, quite a few charge for the return - even O2. AS you have now realised, it is the luck of the draw, and many users are disappointed at the money pronised when it is reduced for reasons not disclosed at the initial contact. Some try it on, hoping the owner will not challenge it (as they have the money) but others rejecting the revised payment then have to pay £10 or more to get their property back. Often, it just isn't worth the hassle, and they know it.0

Actually, there is a LONG thread on this lot. The same things nearly every time reported on there. Not all such sites have such (almost) univerally bad feedback. I frequently sell phones and rarely have the problems described. But then I don't use this one!
Fonebank has almost the inverse feedback. Again, not one I use but would feel happier than this place if I were to.
Not all recycle sites are the same - and none as bad as this one from what I read.0 -
Got a quote of £109 for our old iphone having just purchased a new one. Carefully packed it up & posted it off. Got an email back saying they would only pay £49 as it had 'missing or damaged casing'. We asked for it to be returned even though it was going to cost £10. At this point the offer suddenly rose to £69. Still asked for it's return as it was £40 short of the original quote. Then stated they would waive the £10 return fee - very odd?? Anyway we felt sure that the phone returned would not be ours we were that confident of our belt & braces packaging. When sorting out dates etc. later we found a picture attached to the text further down that we hadn't noticed before. It showed a badly cracked rear casing on a filthy black iphone. It just confirmed our suspicions that it wasn't our phone as that was pristine - just as it came out of the box! After waiting the estimated time for it to be returned - no phone - contacted them again only to be told that the phone had been 'moved on' . What the ?????!! They then agreed to pay the full amount of £109 that was first quoted. However it doesn't end there..........when the money was paid the amount was £60 - don't know where that figure came from at all! After further contact an apology for their 'mistake' and the difference of £49 is due to be paid next. I wonder! Obviously the phone was never damaged as they said. We think the phone was probably 'moved on' from the outset, the photo of damage was not of our phone, and the whole charade was a shakedown to get us to agree to a lower amount. Usually this would work as people wouldn't be bothered to have the phone returned, particularly if they needed to pay £10 to get an allegedly damaged phone back. Don't touch them with a barge pole, at best inefficient and loads of hassle, at worst a scam.0

I would not use them if they were the only company available they promise you a good deal then fob you off saying there is a problem with the phone without going into specifics then try and charge you £10 to get your phone back you might just as well throw your phone away than go to the bother of using them they should be called mobilephoneexchange scammers0
