Tell them to stop taking the piss as it's not covered by the warranty. £50 an hour x 20 hours = your warranty total. They're just trying it on because they're expecting the warranty company to cover the bill.

Although at 26k it'd definitely be worth getting onto the other garage.

But this is nothing to do with the OP and the other garage, unless their guarantee extends to subsequent owners of the vehicle. At twenty-six thousand miles I think it is pushing it at wear and tear though. The warranty company needs to show what they consider to be wear and tear and prove their case.

    OP

What is covered in the warranty? Is the cambelt specifically covered or excluded. If the limit is only one thousand pounds, I would suspect it is not covered.

Sorry just to clear up, the wear and tear part, the garage said the warranty company wouldnt pay for wear and tear (I got this wrong)

What the warranty company said was that we needed to prove that a full kit was changed and not just the belt, we did this, then the garage told them the tensioner was misfitted.

As per the warranty all parts but only faults will be covered. The particular policy we took we knew was only covered up to £1,000 of the costs

Trouble is proving that it wasn't misfitted, the garage have been very specific saying that there is a plus and minus mark on the tensioner and ours was set to minus which is wrong.

According to sources we have spoken to there is no such thing, and that there may be "marks" on the tensioner but that the cam belt snapping would move the setting anyway so this is no proof of misfitting.... ?!

Its just going in circles, so at the moment we are trying to determine the actual make and part that was fitted to see for ourselves what these "marks" are before going down to the garage to inspect the part that was removed.

Not sure I can say who the company is on here but they are mainly known for radio's and push bikes....

You need to study the warranty's terms and conditions thoroughly. You need to know exactly what is and isn't covered. Then you need to engage in negotiations with the company to understand what their interpretations are of their own conditions are. If you are not happy with any outcome by the warranty provider and you feel they are not sticking to the spirit of the policy, you may need to complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

  • The warranty is clear - it will covered faulty parts, but because the garage have assesed (after they stripped the engine out) that the part was fitted incorrectly then the waranty company will not pay.

So we are at the same stage of proving that the part was fitted correctly and also getting justification for them having to totally strip the engine out to asses the problem as we are told that this was not necessary and this is why we are currently sititng on a 600 quid bill.

If the garage had said the part failed then we wouldnt be in this situation, it is simply because the garage have said that it was misfitted. But as already mentioned we have been told by several people that stripping of teh engine was not needed to asses the problem and that how they are saying it was misfitted is absolute rubbish.

This cam belt ran for 30k miles before it snapped, if the tnesioner was misfitted it would never of lasted that long
