Glad to hear that things continue to progress Lula, I think your 'boring' choice of kitchen sounds very sensible. I have mentally ruled out quite a few properties because they had lovely new kitchens (but in horrendous wacky shades). There would be nothing worse than buying a house with a new kitchen, but having to redo the hard work as a result of the previous owner's commitment to style
Chin up, savings and order will be restored.0 -

Glad all going well Lula :T.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

You have inspired me to go off and do a bit of financial planning! Thank you.Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -

CathT - does it mean an actual extension to make it all bigger?

Thanks Ed..... You're spot on, there are some very chavtastic kitchens around in some crazy colours.... not for me at all!
And as for the savings and order - I do hope it will be restored sooner than later!0 -

I can't believe for one moment that my spendy diary could inspire anyone to do some financial planning... unless of course it's to avoid the similar spends that you find on my page!0 -

So, kitchen, utility & den are finished. Hurrah.
Still to do - painting hall, stairs & landing.
To do later - shower for bathroom, tiling and paint - next year.
Money is tight despite just being paid a few days ago and it will be same following October pay day as it's all allocated to the final bills for the work we've had done.
So, once November pay day arrives, savings, OP's can resume. BUT - it'll be Christmas so I expect that will pop a dent in things since my monthly Christmas savings are a thing of the past. Hmmmmmm.
We'd briefly toyed with the idea of having Christmas lunch out this year, but given the money situation (and I guess the fact that i have a lovely new kitchen) it would be madness. So, I shall quickly knock that idea on the head. It'll be Christmas at home this year, no plans to go anywhere which is fab as you can't beat your own bed at Christmas! (Or any other time for that matter).
We've had a few bits to pay out for with the B2L - nothing too expensive or serious; a minor leak with the toilet although the plumber said the tenant was being super picky. And, a replacement fuse in the oven. Pain in the backside, but it could be much much worse and at least the tenant seems to care about keeping the place nice which is great.
The non shrinking mortgage balance on our home is not sitting well with me at all. I really need to water the money tree so that it can start producing something!0 -
Glad all is going well.
