Hi LB, I'm not sure what a forever house is truly, as what is right for now, with kids etc, may not be right after the kids leave home.
I do believe we all need treats now and again, but probably not as we (maybe you weren't) did before, with no thought to purchases, whereas now we all consider what we are doing and why.
I really think I appreciate what I buy more now, and like you it is seldom. I have a small amount of clothes now, they all fit (most, but that can be tackled in 2012) all get worn and life is much simpler.
I do think that is a big lesson on the Tilly household - simple life.
Best wishes from the sun

Thanks Tilly, you are so right.....
I earned quite a bit extra this month and previously I would have allocated quite a bit of money to DH and myself (a new bag for me!) and spoilt the kids etc etc but the whole lot (minus the indigent treat which I'm justifying as saying it my xmas present from DH plus I got some xmas money from my dad) is going to paid off the mortgage......
I just popped to Mr W to buy a few bits of the Christmas food, I stuck to what I wanted to buy and the rest will be purchased from Mr T and Mr A at considerable saving compared to buying everything in Mr W's........
I've never been one for buying many clothes, also I hate shopping which helps! I prefer to have a few nice quality items that last forever and don't go out of fashion. Working from home 90% of the time helps with this.
It's pretty cold here so I hope that you are enjoying the sun and having a wonderful time with the family.
make sure you keep an eye on me and keep me on the straight and narrow. I suspect that the Mulberry sale will be starting in the next week and that's going to prove to be challenging if any of the bags that i like end up in the sale.

Also in regards to the forever house...... I guess I mean the house that i would like for my mid 40's, 50's and 60's..... Would be nice to have now (36) but can't afford it, 10 years time would be a nice goal. I guess I would also look at it as an investment with a view to downsize later in life and have the money to supplement my income etc. It's a long way off but as we all know, it just flies by and I like the idea of having some sort of plan etched in my mind.0

Hiya, I am laughing over here. I said to DH, "don't let me go online to John Ls sale......
So just ping me when you need moral support and I will be there.
Sun is now starting to set. It it will be light until around 545 ish, but the sun is now over the yard arm, so I am waiting for a G&T to materialise - beats asking for a cuppa....

Oh Tilly, it sounds wonderful, have one for me!!

Took DS1 to see Arthur Christmas this morning, using Orange 241 of course.....
The film was great and I'd recommend it to anyone out there who has small children. We both really enjoyed it. Sadly DS2 is still to young to enjoy a cinema experience without moaning so he went to nursery.... Sadly, other parents do not think in the same way and the noise of 2 year olds shouting and moaning did spoil it a little.......
Did some more of the Christmas food shopping at Mr A, just the rest to finish off later at Mr T and then we're done, finally - Hurrah!0 -
Unfortunately, I missed DHL while I was out so I need to wait another day for my super duper new boots to arrive, Meh!0

Have just made the OP to the mortgage for 1st Jan........ decided I best do this before I get tempted to use any of it to shop in the imminent sales.
Looking forward to seeing the new balance sometime at the beginning of January.
Well, all quiet with work this afternoon, DH has just got back from work and is popping to Mr T to pick up the bits and pieces, DS1 is playing games on the computer, DS is at nursery - I should collect him early really but he might as well stay there for his tea which is in half an hour. So, I shall read the last chapter or so of my book and put my feet up for half an hour whilst the house is quiet. The main character in my book got killed a few pages ago so I'm not really sure what the rest can be about.....0 -
So much for the wind down to Christmas...... Between my last post and now I've been chaotic with work. All exciting stuff and I've just booked to go and see a prospective new client in Miami on 7th Jan, which is two weeks on Saturday. It's looking very promising and could make a real difference to our little business, so fingers and toes are crossed. Such a shame that I need to fly all of the way to Miami for the meeting, hehehe. I will miss the kids of course, as I always do when these things come up but I also make the most of it, it will be nice to see some sunshine, although to be honest, it's roasting here today, I've had turn the heating off and open a wind in my little office. Looks like Spring outside rather than the midst of Winter, strange......
No real MSE going on here, spent far too much at the various supermarkets, but hey ho. We can focus again in the New Year.
Best Wishes to everyone for a lovely Christmas and a frugal new year!0 -
well, the super duper ugg boots just arrived and they are lovely but not as super duper as i had hoped, so with a price tag of £250 (they were £350!!), I can't justify, so have just returned them via the post office. When spending so much money it has to be true love not just that they are OK.......0
