Help with email for iPhone
Hi all
Untill about a month ago my emails linked to my iPhone 3gs worked fine, now i cannot send emails. I can receive them fine no problems.
I've tried deleting the account i have synced which is hotmail and creating it again on the iPhone but to no avail.
I know i haven't reached my limit on my internet access as it doesn't work at any point during the month and i have to log in to the hotmail using Safari to send, using email on my phone was and is miles faster and easier.
Any help would be appreciated,

You are in the correct place, but the outgoing mail should be the one your mobile provider supplies eg o2.mail.co.uk or orange.co.uk, however the website for your provider will furnish the settings which you can have sent to the phone.0 -

no it shouldn't (unless your network actually blocks certain email ports - which I don't think any do nowadays) and you would want sent email to send through your email provider (hotmail in this case) so your sent emails show up in hotmails 'sent' folder so you can seamlessly move from mobile to web view without loosing data.
OP if you are on iOS5 set up hotmail using the 'hotmail' button in add account, or if you are not on iOS5 use these settings or watch this video
that will give better email sync and should work.0 -
just checked the SMTP settings you gave and they should be:
smtp.live.com on port 25 with SSL
but IMO using the exchange settings is a better option as it syncs your email with the sever rather than just downloading a local copy it also gives you push email if you want it.

When I send an email from my ipod touch or mobile, the sent email appears as if from the host account, my mobile outbox is set to O2, but my emails are my btinternet or gmail depending which one I use0 -

it's a throwback from when ISPs (esp mobile networks) would block all ports apart from the web (port 80?) and their own SMTP server (this was to make sure they could charge you more for an email service)
nowadays pretty much no ports are blocked, so for gmail you would just use smtp.gmail.com instead of say smtp.o2.co.uk, obvious reason that sent emails would save in gmails sent folder, and also security, I personally wouldn't want my gmail email being sent through o2's server esp. when gmail already has their smtp server.0 -
Thanks for the replies guys i'm now up to speed and the emails are working again0
