Sounds much more like a free* MOT** where *=we need a year and 32 days notice, and **=Only available on Easter Sunday

    or am I just cynical

I had a "free" MOT at a certain garage last year. I wasn't happy with the garage I used to use and was looking round for somewhere else. There was a place where I had had some tyres fitted just before (having bought them online) and it was offering free MOTs with a full service; the service was dearer than the old place but service + MOT together was pretty much the same price so I went for it.

The failure sheet was as long as your arm - pedantry left right and centre. Number plate lights not bright enough, windscreen wipers not clearing the screen effectively (absolute bull) - things like that.

They offered to quote me for the "repairs", but I told them to shove it, went home and changed what I had to, took it back for the free re-test and will never go there again.

Definitely no such thing as a free lunch. Or MOT.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:You ever heard of the phrase "there's no such thing as a free lunch"? If they didn't get you this time they will next. Don't get btied up with ANY outfit

Sorry but I think you've been done up like a kipper

How? I have had everything promised bar the winter check & fluid check that I haven't booked. The labour on the service would have been more than £40, and the cheapest air con regas is around that too. How much are tyres balancing & wheel alignment? I have done over 70,000 miles so knew I needed tyres & brakes, had them checked to make sure they were all needing done and shopped around - they were by far the cheapest I could get.

The MOT is free so we'll see how it gets on - car is 3 years old so should be ok (although I do need new windscreen wipers - will get them at weekend).

I am a satisfied customer (as long as the eedjit this morning doesn't answer the phone :rotfl:) - satisfied but wary - I know too many people who've fell for the Kwik Fit suspension trick ;).

I am sort of expecting an experience like scragends for the MOT - we shall see.

To be fair, I was very suspicious going into it, but it costs around £40 for an aircon regas so I reckoned even if I just got that and the MOT I'd be in profit.

Has worked out really well and hope I get a chance to renew it!

Happy to say my old banger has just sailed through it's MOT. 2001 car, so expected some kind of work needing. So needless to say I'm over the moon that it didn't need anything doing (no advisory either :j) Mechanic did say it could do with a slight handbrake adjustment but it would be fine to wait and do it until after Santa's been.
