Replacement of bathroom suite

Hello everyone, we've been quoted £550 to remove our old bathroom suite (toilet, bath and sink) and install a new one that we have alreay bought, plus to take around 100 to 120 tiles off the wall. It will take one plumber around 2 days to do.
Is this too much (I think it is and thought it might be around £400 max) or am I just being a naive cheapstake? Any advice gladly appreciated!

This is not out of the way 400 for a straight swap but it depends what is happening with the tiles so this is not out of the way0

I would think your £400 would be a fairer price, based on what you say. 2 days for 1 man, say 9 hours per day = 18 hours. So £550/18 = £30.5per hour. This is supposing you are supplying the tiles and grout.

:rotfl: A plumber work 9 hours a day :rotfl:
my hubbys a bathroom & kitchen fitter and he only works 7 hours a day max !
the average charge for a straight swap over in london is £550 - £600,
removing tiles about extra £50 or so,
a single person cannot lift a bath by themselves, they usually have to have someone to help them,
plus got bagging up of rubbish, disposing of old suite at the tip, replumbing in new suite, renewing pipework etc. checking for leaks, plus the plumber usually gives a years guarantee so if there are any leaks they have to go and see why etc. even if its not their work,
I'm trying to be a good moneysaver
but I keep reading the bargains on the grabbit board !:rotfl:

Hello, thanks for the responses everyone. I'm aiming to get another couple of quotes and see what they say. Sorry if I didn't make it clear but the plumber is just removing tiles and not adding any (that delightful little job will done by my husband! Lucky old him!
)

£550 sounds a lot if its like for like, but does depend on what pipework needs doing? Where abouts are you as this will make a difference0

I don't think it's out of the way as I suspect there is some work in addition to removing the tiles, either in putting something back or in two visits because the OP is doing the tiling or getting someone else in to do the tiling. Would the OP please confirm?A house isn't a home without a cat.

Hello again. Thanks for messages. We live in Abingdon (about 8 miles olut of Oxford) and the plumber will just be removing the tiles. We've got a very strange bathroom in that the wall the toilet and sink are fixed into to is actually almost like a false wall built so that the pipework has all been boxed in behind.
I've been told by the surveyor (when they survey was done) and the plumber also said the same (I didn't tell him the surveyor had said it coz I wanted to see what he said!) that this little wooden board wall cannot be moved out or moved any further back because then we would need to move lots of pipes and re-plumb the bathroom altogether (which we can't afford to do).
So when the plumber removes the tiles he's actually going to remove all the ones that are on this wooden board wall, which will just leave us with the bare wooden board.
Sorry, I don't think I've explained this very well but I hope that makes some sense?0 -
Our plumber charges £60 a day so a two day job for two men would be £240- we are in the North of england though!0
