I keep seeing things :(

Right i was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder over 2 years ago and all was settling down, take my meds and i am fine.

Stopped having a Psychiatrist in january as she left and my CPN is off ill so not seen her since beginning of September.

Everything has been ok (i say ok but ok for me) but the past month i keep seeing things in the corner of my eyes and its doing my head in, i know there is nothing there but i still keep seeing.

What should i do? do i go back to my GP? aside from seeing things everything else *touch wood* is ok for the minute.

Any ideas?

Do you have psychic abilities? I'm sure I read somewhere that seeing things out of the corner of your eye is a sign of being gifted.

  • Dont think so, before i was medicated i used to see things in the corner of my eyes and in front of me, so im guessing its my bipolar playing up.

  • Dare I ask what sort of things you see? I ask purely because on my eye tests at an opticians, I get asked this question each time. I'm just wondering if it's your eyes rather than anything with, say medication for example. I could be completely wrong, but I think it would be daft to rule anything out and if you think your GP may be able to refer you again which would help you, then do that. They may even suggest what could be causing the movements you are seeing.

I'd agree with moose1982 - always rule out the physical first. Have you had a recent eye test at all?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Yes go to your GP, and get referred to a specialist eg a psychiatrist, also see an optician in case it's an eye problem.
  • Never thought it could be my eyes, but its shadows and flashes (not fireworks lol)

Guess i need to go see my GP again, already got dentist 2 times this week :/ on top of a really bad cold/chest/ear/throat problems, i guess my 3 bad lucks all came this week :)

  • My mum (who is not bi polar) has recently started seeing things in the corner of her eyes, the first time she noticed it she thought someone was walking past her kitchen window. After several tests she was told it's nothing to worry about & simply something that can happen as you get older....she's 65, I cant recall if she was told it was something to do with the retina but definately nothing to worry about.

Obviously you need to get this checked out but it could be that, like my mum, it isn't anything to worry about.
  • Hope its not age im only 26 lol

Yeah will get checked out, deep down i know its my bipolar so my meds might need tweaking.

  • I see things out of the corner of my eye....for a split second. Drives me mad and makes me jump. Sometimes it's like a spider and sometimes it's a larger shadow type movement - just fleeting. Sometimes it happens a lot and then other times hardly ever.

I feel sure its due to a retina condition that when it was found several years ago needed treatment to avoid more serious problems developing. (it started at same time and I've read that others have the same experience although I've not received actual medical advice to that effect). One of the other symptoms of this condition are flashes and bursts of light - sometimes pin pricks and some times larger. I originally went to my local hosp Eye dept emergency dept at the recommendation of an optician but I could have just walked in on my own steam.

I'm not saying any of this to scare you - it was all fine and the treatment was okay, I'm just trying to say what the others have - it could be physical but I can understand why you might think its related to BP or meds side effect - I think you need to find out for your own peace of mind

    Best of luck
  • I also meant to say - trust your instinct - you know your body best, but def follow it up and try something else if the first makes no difference
