If you go into a dealer and get A BRAND NEW 14K CAR over 3 years , maintenance, insurance, road tax, all repairs including tyres, oil top ups, services, bulbs, and get change out of £200 then let me know.
Theyre talking bull.
However if you're keeping the car for more than 3 years it can work out better depending on your choice of car/what you need.
We bought a Kia rio when we were due to hand back our last mobility car because we were fed up with the messing about with DLA (my mother had hers pulled with almost zero notice due to incompetence at the DWP).
It took about 5 years for it to break even compared to a mobility car (IIRC £7k for the car then the insurance and servicing with a youngish driver), but the last two years have saved about £4k easily (£600 a year insurance, and about £500 for new tyres/servicing/minor repairs last year), and at a guess the car is likely to keep running for another 3-5 years, by which time we'll have saved the price of a new car.
Mobility is great if you need a bigger/more expensive car, or need to have a new one every few years, but is fairly expensive if you just need a general car, don't do much mileage and don't worry much about the age (especially with the Korean cars coming with 5+ year warranty's now).0
