from experience - get used to it. DS had one and no amount of oil or tightening shut it up. We got rid in the end.

Poor DS spent 2 years with a permanent stipple mark on his forehead where he'd sit up forgetting he was high up and head butt the artexed ceiling lmao

The final straw came when he had a vomiting bug - trying to get down ladders rapidly when ill is no easy feat.

It was probably the worst purchase we ever made though, I gave it away in the end.
  • sounds like we will have to live with it and lump it then!dd room is tiny so needs the extra storage space--never though of illness etc! its so irritating and noisy!we got it for free so glad we didnt pay out for it! thanks all

I have a metal frame bed I got for free, I love it but my girls hated it cos it is super squeaky. You do live with it. DD2 now begs to sleep in it! :)
Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine. :D

Oh yes illness is great fun, imagine the range of vomit from 5ft up

In fairness they are useful though, especially for space issues, just bloomin irritating!!
  • I know you said that the bed isn't against the wall, but is part of it against the skirting board? My son's wooden cabin bed squeaks like crazy every time he moves if it has moved up against the skirting board, but is fine otherwise.

But having read the other posts, maybe that's why you got it free..... perhaps the previous owner couldn't bear the squeaking any longer :)

For goodness sake, listen, a metal bed is only a collection of metal struts, when they squeak it's because they are moving against each other.
Either you stop the moving, or you lubricate between the joints that are squeaking.

If you tighten them enough, they shouldn't make a noise, if the bolts don't let you tighten them enough, it's because the nuts and bolts aren't of a good enough quality. So get some new ones.

Try WD40 and try tightening them again.

If that doesn't work, the basic design is a bad one and may need strengthening with additional struts. But it should work.

And get the kid to move about on the bed and work out exactly where the noise is coming from, then you can deal with it.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
