Pulling Hair Out

 Hi there i wonder if anyone can help....my norton anti virus has expired and i decided not to renew norton but to go for AVG...i had to download a Norton removal tool from symantic website in order to remove norton....to my horror i have now lost my administrator status and cannot seem to restore this...ive tried to fix the registry but all it tells me is that i am not authorised to alter the registry....i have also lost the RUN command in start up and even the ability to turn off the pc from the start menu....Any help would be gratefully appreciated...thanks guys

on the Logon screen press ctrl alt deleted twice then another log on screen will appearer om the user type administrator and leave the password field blank and press ok. Same thing as albertross said, sorry didn't see you had posted.
  • Hi tried both of the remidies that have so far been posted...safe mode got so far and then froze....and ctrl alt and del twice got me through to the screen but wouldnt allow me to just type administrator with no password and then continue:confused:
  • go to start/control panel/user accounts/and set up another account there or change the administrator account to yours.

So it will boot with the new user?

Is the new user an administrator?

If so, go into user manager, change the administrator password, so that you know it in future.

    try chkdsk c: /F/R

if your original account still doesn't work, make the original account an admin

  • thanks for fast response...it still says administrator in the user account...its just if i try to do anything it denies me....also i have no run command anymore as that dissappeared with the turn off utility
