Teknica TV broken within warranty

Hi Everyone,

I bought a Teknica TV last year at Tesco as a present for my son to play games on and watch DVD's on. I bought it in December and now for no reason it keeps switching itself off and random times.

It doesn't seem to matter what you're doing at the time, sometimes watching a dvd, others while playing XBOX games. And the time varies from 10 minutes to 2 hours, to sometimes working normally.

Contacted Tesco and they said the only option would be to repair it, but last time i sent something away to be repaired it was lost and then found and took 4-5 months to sort (a pc).

Am i within my rights to say i want a replacement as opposed to a repair.

Store manager says it has to go through their electrical dept who are insisting on a repair.

I've got my receipts etc

thanks for any advice given

Sean

Being as you have had it for nearly 12 months you will have to accept a repair, if a repair is possible.

No, you cant choose I'm afraid.

The shop has the choice to repair, replace or refund.

If it isnt repairable, they would likely refund you the money less a certain amount as you have had the use of it for nearly a year.

Or they could obviously offer to replace ti.

Shame really, Ive got two Technical TVs which Ive had for donkeys years. Absolutely no trouble with one of them, the other
at one time we got sound but no picture. Took it to a repairers 25 miles away and the wanted about £50 before the would even take the back off, so I declined and brought it home. I was just going to Skip it but tried it again when I got home and it worked perfectly and has done ever since. Must have just wanted a ride out eh.

Hope it goes okay for you, Tesco are usually pretty good.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

They have the option of repair, replace or refund. 4-5 months for repair would not be likely as it would clearly be unacceptably long.
However since spares for Technika's are next to impossible to obtain, it's most likely that they'll offer you a similar model as a replacement. Tesco know from experience how rubbish these TV"s are and won't usually be difficult about it. Technika's are simply branded overruns or old stock that are bought from numerous manufacturers and badged up-they don't actually exist as a model except for the badging.
If offered a refund, take it and go buy a decent brand that will last more than a year.
