I would question whether you actually need an iPhone or whether you have been sucked into the perceived aura that owning one seems to create.

OK, it's a nice enough phone but the 3GS is 2 models old now and for the needs you describe there are plenty of other phones out there (generally android based) that would offer the same for less if you shop around.

It's your choice but personally I would look elsewhere.

So I can go on-line and browse on T-Mobile and it doesn't eat into the data allowance?
I seem to be wrong. What I see coming with 3gs is just "500MB".

If you buy their sim-only tariffs you can take a free internet booster with unlimited browsing, but this seems not to apply to contracts with phones.

BTW, I see they are doing £2.50 p.m. discount ATM for sim-only deals. You can get 300+300+Unltd/500Mb for 12x£7.71 and £50.50 cashback that makes it just £3.50 p.m.

I know I could get an Android phone for less (and I know the jokes about iPhones), but I'm already a convert to my son's iTouch and tempted to get one for myself, so might as well have something that does calls too. As I know I am a laggard when it comes to technology I'm not fussed about having the latest version.

Thanks Grumbler, for all your help. I'll do a bit more digging around as I'm in no rush.

Why dont you get the phone from apple unlocked & choose tmobile sim only plan for £7.71 per month.300 mins/300 texts & choose flexible booster(12 month contract-1 month ones also available). Not bad for the price.http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/sim-only/tariffs/
If you get a sim free phone, you at least can change to another provider without hassle.
