in Credit cards
Ok guys,
In June i applied for nationwide credit card on 17 months 0% BT offer. The sales lady told me I couldn't declare all my income on the application form as it wasn't guaranteed. Anyway the "soft search" offered me a good rate and good limit. When i accpted the offer the system declined the application. I was told it was because i did not have an existing relationship etc with the back and that NW are picky etc... i was then told that my score allowed me a flex account with an overdraft of 2k??? emm what? i did not want a flex account
Anyway I checked my credit file and all was well so though i would send them a copy with some wage slips and appeal. This was registered as a complaint (based on what i wrote). I receive a call about 2 weeks later and was told that feedback was being sent to the staff member etc and that they would appeal for me based on my wage slips. About 2 months later I wrote again as my existing offer had ended and was now paying interest at 17.9%. I did think about applying elsewhere but didn't want hurt my credit file another search unnecessarily.
No response, so about 3 weeks later i called up and was told "we've just received your letter" Yeah right then. The person I spoke with told me that the appeal had not been processed and they would do it now. Apologies etc where given...
Again weeks went by and nothing. I wrote a third time about 3 weeks back and again. nothing. So i though to hell with this and applied else where and was accepted. (with an even better rate and BT offer)... Today i received a letter from NW asking me to sign my credit agreement.... 5 months later.....
Well I have just called the complaints department and informed (the unlucky person who answered,) nicely to shove the card where the sum don;t shine. I was told the person who is dealing with my complaint will ring me back.. (yeah ok, wont hold my breath )
But as my complaint has not been correctly dealt with, and I've waited 5 months for my appeal to be processed, I want compensation. I was thinking of asking for £180 to cover the interest on my other card (the one that was going to be transferred to them). Do you think I'm being unreasonable?

That's very poor customer service. However, I do not think you can expect to be compensated for not getting a credit card. There was no guarantee you would be accepted and it is up to the discretion of the decision maker in the end along with in house guidance. You may get some flowers or chocolates (more so if you take out the credit card) but I would not give you a gesture of goodwill payment.Don't thank me, thank my post :T

Unfortunately yes. There is no guarantee you would have got the credit card. Also you could have been given a credit card with a larger APR than advertised. If you credit rating is very good to excellent you should have compared the market at an earlier stage. You have a better card now so you’ve not lost out completely. No stage one complaints handler would give GGW payment for this. Surely not for £180! You’ll be lucky to get anything more than an apology.Don't thank me, thank my post :T

I always had major issues with NW. They asked for Photo ID, so we took our Passports to the local branch (as instructed), who photocopied them, and who were supposed to forward them for approval. Had to do that twice, and they mysterioussly dissapeared on both occastions.
Then a new branch opened so went in to apply. Then turns out that we had to 'partial accounts' with NW (the result of application that werent completed on time). Took ages to sort that out.
Complete nightmare to deal with.
EDIT: Got the card eventually, and once youre in they appear to be fine. Its getting there thats the trick0 -
thanks,
I know there was no guarantee, but i held off applying due to the information received from them.
But your right, I've a better card and better rate. So all's well that ends well. :jIf you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...:think:0 -

As a former nationwide customer, I think their customer service has really gone down the pan. They used to be second to none but in recent years I have found them absolutely terrible. Hence I am now a former customer.0

Errrr .... You just did?!?I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
Well just thought I would update you all. Nationwide wrote to me and offered 150.00 and 35 for costs. Meaning they are agreeing to pay me 185.
Wasn't expecting them to accept my complaint in this way. So maybe they not all bad. I've still decided not to accept the card though as its not needed and dont want to much available credit. If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...:think:0
