Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help. I can smell petrol in my v reg for focus. It has been checked by a couple of garages, who said that there is nothing and they cant see anything bu everytime fill up I can smell it. Has anyone experienced something similar or have an idea of what it can be? And whether I need to do anything about it?
Thank you

Are you filling up at the same garage? Could there be a leak at one of the pumps and you've brought it into the car on your feet? Maybe it's not but sometimes it's the most obvious thing that's the problem.0

Only when you fill up?!!

i think it tends to be after filling up - and now - fill up at different stations. Thank you0

or the breather pipe has come detached from the top of the tank. Had this before, specifically on minis. The tank breather is often overlooked by garages............Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Are you brimming it?
how long before the smell passes?
As well as breather pipe, leaks in the top of the tank aren't easy to spot without removing the tank
Also check exhaust!!

The top of the tank could have become porous (had this on a Vectra). It only smelled if I filled the tank to the top and then disappeared as I used the petrol. Not a lot I could do about it apart from replace the tank.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -
If it's only when you fill at a filling station, I'd repeat the theory that you're walking on a forecourt where folk have spilled, or there's lingering odour on your hand, etc.0

I had exactly the same on a Corsa. I got into the habit of only 3/4 filling the tank. :rotfl:0 -
If you fill to the top it would be usual for a petrol smell at first .
The key here is that after driving for 15 mins or so the smell should have gone . If the smell is there a day later its a leak of some description and or venting on fuel tank faulty . Possible faulty filler cap .
