I have been a member of Lovefilm and Screenselect for around three years and this week attempted to cancel my membership. All my discs were sent back and so I called them up and was put through to their call centre in India. Initially they refused to cancel my membership because they maintained that I still had a disc out on my account, however this was a disc I had reported as not sent in the correct envelope in 2004 and so I had never received it.
After much discussion they agreed to cancel my account and stated that they would send me a confirmation letter. However, they have since not cancelled my account and moved the 'wrong disc' into the 'allocated discs' section, meaning that I cannot cancel my account. In my opinion this is completely unethical behaviour and I would advise anyone considering an online DVD account to avoid Lovefilm.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
