Tracked post from China, and missing item.

Just a quick query, as im aware im running out of time for a claim, and wanted to check this out with you helpful ebay MSErs..
Bought an item on 1st October from a seller in China. I realised I needed to be patient and bought it in plenty of time.
Seller emails a couple of weeks ago, asking if I have it, and can I leave feedback. it hadn't, so seller said wait 5 days, they would resend or refund, this happened a couple of times, and then they said they had resent it. They have given me a tracking number, but I am unable to clarify if this is for the first item or replacement.
I have tried to check on the web site they gave me, and all it says is 'Cannot get request dispatcher for path success'. Im not sure if theres a problem with the site, or if they have just given me a false number.
Anyone else had issues with tracking from China? I have a reminder on 'my ebay' that if I want to claim I have to do so before 14th, would I be better waiting and do a paypal claim if it doesnt turn up? (I think ebay give 35 days, and paypal give 45 is that right?) If I gave it the maximum time, to give it time to arrive, would I have to escalate the same day, or would I still have 20 days from the day I make a claim?
Hope someone can advise. Hopefully it will arrive, but if it doesnt it would be really good to know what to do, without having to sort it in a panic, or find ive missed a deadline!:)

Both allow 45 days but PayPal is a sleeker experience in so much as they have rigid timescales by which they refund.
Open it now, do not close it under any circumstances until you have the item or a refund.0 -
Thanks, I'll give it a few more days and then do paypal if thats better than ebay. I was prepaired for it to take a while, but have started to get slightly twitchy as I thought time was running out and they were asking me to wait and wait so I wouldnt realise i was past the deadline to claim.
The seller says there has been a national holiday in china, and also a nationwide problem with the post. I have no idea if this is true or just spinning me an excuse.:o0 -
That maybe the plan. Wait 30 days or more then they tell you they have despatched another one. So you leave it 2 weeks
contact them to say nothing yet. They ask for a few more days and then its too late.
No item and too late to claim.
I ordered an item on the 14th October and no sign yet. But other items i ordered on the 24th arrived several days ago.
I think monday 17th will be dispute day, Or is that a bit early?
Not desperate for the item but want it before winter sets in.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Well, just went on paypal and opened a case, then get a message from ebay..
'You opened an eBay Buyer Protection case'
Does this mean Ive opened an ebay case?! I was definitely on paypal when I opened the case

Yes, PayPal diverts you back to eBay unless you are persistent. It just means its a looser time scale.....0

It is rather sneaky the main 'continue' boxes on paypal state that you are going to be diverted back to ebay to make the claim. To have stuck with a paypal claim you have to click the option that 'I wish to make a claim with paypal' which is in a smaller box.
Never mind, it just takes a bit longer usually on ebay (the last one I did took about 15 days) but you get the same result.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. And yet there's another thread running extolling the virtues of buying from China. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

Everything i ordered upto and including the 28th has arrived.
Yet the item i ordered on the 14th has still not shown its face.
How long should i leave it? I did message the seller and seems they sent the item normal post not tracked.
I think they used the cheapest postage method possible and it will be pot luck getting here within the 45 day timeframe before a dispute must be filed.
Must have been looking at the wrong month on my previous post, Monday 17th?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I buy lots from Hong kong. The average time for arrival is about 30 days currently, although I do get some bits within 14 days and some not arrived after 40 days. I always email the seller on or around 25-30 days and then open a claim on day 40- I never let it go any longer than 40 days.
I always used to either get a refund or my goods arriving and never had a case that I needed to leave open in paypal. However in the past month I have had 2 cases go all the way in paypal and the seller is now suspended. I've also had three cases close in ebay with no response at all from the seller. The suspended seller was an odd one- over 1100 positive feedback, excellent stars and I had bought from them before. To have bene suspended they must have just gone into meltdown.
Percentage wise though that is still a very tiny percent of the amount i buy overall.
I have found though that some address labels are poor. The type is so small that I can barely read it and the return labelling is actually larger- so maybe some have gone straight back.
I am not buying anything at all though that have a brand name or can be 'faked'I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for all the explanations, didnt see any redirection on the paypal, so im not that observant

May be better in a way, as paypal work faster, at least with ebay if its a longer process, it will hopefully give the item a little longer to turn up.
Message also said I would need to escalate it before 21st if still not arrived, now I dont know if to escalate this via paypal or ebay:undecided.
I guess Im hoping the parel turns up anyway!0
