No facts to sustain your baseless accusation that I am lazy. No basis [other than my posting times] to make any kind of statement about the hours I put in. And as for calling it whining, you have no basis to say that I am unhappy with my lot. So it seems that there is something about my post which touched a rather raw nerve.
There is more value out of my lazy back side than in your post there, my friend.
How many times have you worked 80hrs a week back to back? In fact, how many times have you even worked a 60hr week? I bet the answer is somewhere between zero and none.
Instead of doing an extra job for how ever long it takes to get the money together to buy a house, you'd rather post a rant on a forum about how unfair it all is that people who have, or people who have been willing to take a risk have the cheek to buy houses to rent out.
Obviously you are happy renting otherwise you'd be out there doing a second job right now to get the money together. Either that or you are too bone idle and think the world owes you a house. Here's the rub, the world owes you nothing.0 -

All that will happen is the tax accountants will find ingenious ways around any increased taxes.
I once proved how to have a million quid turnover, have quite a nice living out of it and not make a single penny profit on paper just doing nothing more than selling amateur radio transceivers on Ebay.0 -
The reason that people have problems with BTL landlords (or bankers, or aristocratic landowners, or big industrialists) is that they are rentiers.
They gain their income and their profit, not through their own labour, but through capturing the labour of the people who are forced (in some form or another) to serve their capital.
Now whether you believe that is a moral evil or an economic hindrance or just the natural order of the invisible hand of capitalism. But it's not hard to understand the distaste.

Re: Hammyman
I have no doubt that you work hard however lets not pretend that you being able to afford a second (or third) property is all down to that hard work. The fact is that, probably though more luck than any skill or foresight, you happened to be around at the time of the biggest property boom this country has ever known which has given you tremendous amounts of equity to play with.0 -
Do not blame the BTLetters. Many of us are just building a pension pot, because NuLab wrecked our work pension and any government is pushing back the retirement date of the State pension.
We're no different to anyone else, when you buy other necessities, like food or heating, you're being charged as much as the market can afford and those companies are making a profit.
TBH, BTLetters have probably done the rental market more good than harm. Where would everybody be living who is renting now? No, not everyone would be able to buy a property, if your credit or finances are rubbish, who do you turn to for a place to live?
We don't all want to rip the @rse out of the market, my current tenants are paying the same as they were when they moved in in Aug 2001. For me it is a pension pot and as long as they're covering my mortgage after tax and costs then that is fine.
The real people to blame are NuLab (and now, partly Tories), who let in several million through unfettered immigration and built not one single council house. If they'd not let in several million unneeded people and built several hundred thousand council houses (not to be sold, only for rent) then we wouldn't be in this situation.
I understand the anger and envy of the have-nots, but direct it at our political elites, not your average BTLetter with a property or two, just trying to make their way in this world.0 -
The resentment against buy to let investors is caused by pricing out first time buyers. They targeted mainly first time buyer start up properties, have unfair tax advantages and now are charging ever increasing rents despite the state of the economy.
I am more concerned about this:mustrum_ridcully wrote: »It's a bit more complex than just envy on the part of buyers. There's also anger from owners who have seen the negative impacts of having a transient population of neighbours due to houses/flats being sold for BTL.
I've seen the urban de-generation that can go hand-in-hand with flat conversions and HMOs which have been driven in-part by the BTL boom. I'm talking about things like litter/waste, crime, noise, ASB, loss of community spirit etc. Thankfully I've never lived in the area I'm talking about, but if I had I'd have been pretty pee'd off.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I have allowed my tenants (a young family) to rent the house off me on a five year contract, they requested this contract after having lived in the house for just over a year. During this five year term there will ne no price adjustments and I repair all issues with the house as a matter of priority. They are able to have goats, chickens and hens within a penned off section of the garden and they are also able to grow many of their own vegetables via the plot that was already there. The house is modern and comfortable and I would never consider letting out a house I wouldn't live in myself. I think the term parasite when refering to LL's is unfair.0

Hi All,
I recently read an article on Yahoo in which most of the posters hated people who properties to let, is this a general feeling?
From the outset I should say that I bought a property to let, it was a problem house that needed (and still needs) a lot of improvements done to it and I have to work 2 jobs and use whatever income I get from the property just to keep my head above water.
Do people think that being a Landlord is easy?
If you are happy with your life choices, why are you on here whining to us about it?
Or are you looking for a big pat on the back?Been away for a while.0 -

Shaz77, that sounds idyllic but as I said earlier, I doubt that most of the LLs who post on here are typical. Your tenants can have goats and chickens? That's great - I've just been refused permission to put a nail in the wall to hang a picture and my LL moaned about the smoke alarms because he felt they would 'damage' his property. Do you see the difference there? I'm guessing that my experience is probably more typical than that of your lucky tenants.0
