Travelex - Anyone used ?

Hi everyone.

I am looking at using Travelex for buying approx £500 of American dollars, but never used them before.

Is it straight forward to use the service including pick up from airport ? or is it worth avoiding ?

Our departing airport is Manchester. Do they have a kiosk to pick up from here ? also I hear they charge for using debit cards and credit cards to purchase, so would it really be any cheaper than buying from no commission travel agents ?

Many Thanks

Considering travelex a probably the biggest travel exchange company in the UK, you should be fine.

Very easy, buy online and then pick up at airport. Very easy.

yep , great company - as long as you book your currency in advance online , they usually offer the best rate available - not if you just turn up at airport and buy there and then
In fact i'll be picking up my euro's from them in about 4 hours time from PIK

  • I've used Travelex a number of times - the last time being at Manchester Airport just before New Year. No problems whatsoever. Note that any charges incurred using your debit card are made by the card issuer, not Travelex. I've used my First Direct Maestro/Switch card and my Nationwide Visa Debit card and have not been charged anything.

agreed i have used them to buy online and took advantage of the price match promise a few times with zero problems.

just make sure you have the Card that you orginally purchased the money online with you and photo ID when you collect.
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

They do have kiosks at manchester airport.
There is no charge for using a switch/maestro card
you will need the card and a photo id to collect

One more thing. Their online rates are very competitive and very close to current forex market rates which you can check at https://www.xe.com

hi, have used it many times; excellent exchange amount, but always cheaper if you book money over the net, than in the airport, remember to take the card you paid with; I believe they are now open 24 hours. No hassel fantastic start to holiday.

can only add to all the posts above - have used before and will use again - much easier than getting to a bank in a lunch hour, and has always had the best exchange rate

  • Have used them and they are very good - picked up before flight with no problem - take your email confirmation (or ference number) and your card that you paid with it for.

Tip - do not use a Visa card - i got charged for using one £3.75 each time - plus Visa limit the amount you can order to £300 worth each time - so if you want a lot of currency, you have to order in £300 units plus charging you every time - VERY CHEEKY!! This is not travelex mind but your card issuer!! Would have been cheaper to get it from the post office in the end due to the charges!

BTW your point about visa debit cards, its only certain card issuers that do this. For example Nationwide debit cards which are visa, don't do this.
