If you believe the SNP, Scotland pay more in than they take out (mainly regarding oil tax revenue). ;)

Its not if you believe the SNP. Its if you believe the GERS or McCrone report.

In McCrones words, an independent Scotland would have "embarrassingly" large tax surpluses. Its his report that was commissioned by the then Tory government and was unearthed a few years ago under the Freedom of Information Act. It went on to say that officials advised government ministers on how to take "the wind out of the SNP sails". The incoming Labour administration classified the document as secret over fears it could give a further boost to the SNP's policy of Scottish independence.

There's also the issue a few years back where Scottish council tax was raised when it could have been lowered in order so that the English tax didnt have to be raised as much. This latter part was reported by the BBC and not the SNP.

However, discussing politics in mixed company is never a good idea as there are always 2 things which will lead to sensible people arguing.....religion and politics. Its something that we're free to choose for ourselves what we believe.

I'm not pro or anti SNP. It was just easier to write SNP when posting using my Ipod. :rtofl:

(The SNP did and do assert what I posted, so it was a correct post. But you are also correct as to what they are using to support their argument. :) )
