Morrisons Fireworks

Went to Morrissons yesterday and bought their £35 selection box, because looking at the size of the fireworks they looked nice and big ( i.e. long lasting with lots of effects). Over half of them were in boxes around 7cm x 7cm x 13cm high, so quite chunky.

Dissappointed with the display I've gone back this morning to look at the boxes. Inside them there is nothing but a tube with an internal diameter of 1.4cm and 11.3cm long. This is the full extent of the powder in the firework and is in my opinion misleading wrt the size of the anticipated display that one could expect.

Off to Morrisons to complain.

  • shouldn't be selling the things anymore tons of people get injured every year they're dangerous just selling explosives to people.
Come on, it's not rocket surgery is it?
  • i mean i know there are tons of sensible people who don't get hurt but seriously the amount of people who get hurt is pretty bad they should just ban them and get people to go to organised displays

I've never understood why people would spend money on fireworks.... you might as well just set fire to your money.

We've always just gone to the local charity display.... a much larger firework display for a lot less money.

Good luck at Morrisons..... I don't think you'll get anywhere though

    Selection boxes are always disappointing.

We have a garden display each year. We have around 60 people turn up which includes most of the neighbours, and get each family to bring along one decent firework rather than a selection box. This means we get a decent display. We put a lot of hot food on (chillies, currys, jacket potatoes) and mulled wine.

The main advantage over an organised display is we have a decent bonfire that everyone can interact with - i.e. not watch it from 50 yards away, and then sit around it having a few drinks catching up for a few hours afterwards.

Its more of a social sort of thing, and everyone agrees it is better than the local displays.

Plonker... by that logic we should stop selling cars, power tools, ladders etc. The firework itself is quite safe, it only becomes a risk when used improperly!

calling names just makes you look silly, better to present a sensible argument rather than childish name calling.

comparing a firework to a useful product such as a car is specious reasoning.

I had to take a driving test to drive, I can just nip into the local shop and buy fireworks.

I don't think Joe public should be able to buy them either, a lot of them end up in the hands of silly kids.Speaking as one of the kids who ended up with them without too much effort back in the day.

I agree that you had to take a test to drive, plenty dont! but you did not need to take that test to buy a car.

Have a look around almost any home these days, check the cupboards and you will find lots of things that have the potential to be lethal, off the top of my head..alcohol, bleach, oven cleaner, now go to the garage/shed where you will usualy find saws, hammers, shears, paint thinners...the list is endless

What I am saying is that there are many things in everyday use that have the potential to cause harm if used incorrectly, would it be right to ban us, jo public, from buying them because a few people act irresponsibly?

I agree that there are kids, silly or otherwise, getting hold of fireworks (and guns, knifes, vodka etc) but for the most part they only get these handed to them by so called responsable adults!

Maybe prohibition is one way of stopping kids getting fireworks after all it sure as hell worked for firearms.

Oh, dear. The 'let's ban everything' brigade is out.

Why not start with a genuine risk: try proposing a ban on the motorcycle and see how that goes down.
