Hey MSE users,

Just a quickie regarding illegal marketing practices used by Vodafone in an attempt to gain custom that I am unwilling to give them.

I sent a letter to Voda in September asking them to remove me from any marketing lists that they may hold, which includes phone, text, post and email. The former three of these have been stopped with almost immediate effect, however the email marketing has continued, including emails telling me to check my bills each month.

Phoned Voda, to be told that there is nothing they can do, as I don’t have a valid account with them any longer, however stopped my in-house lawyer (commercial, specialising in contracts) coming into the office this morning, who has confirmed that the marketing practices used are in fact illegal. She will be writing a loving letter to them demanding that these are stopped immediately and requesting £250 for any emails that have been sent since 10 days from the postal request.

I will update regarding the outcome, but it seems the CAG approach needs to be taken with these incompetent idiots, however much I may hate it!

I am on a 2 year contract with another provider and am happy (for the time being) with them, meaning that I do not really want to switch!

Any advice would be welcomed!

C

Thanks JournalGirl, already tried that, however they find some way of getting around these. This has happened 4 times.

I don’t really want my company name on the McLaren cars, especially nowhere near Santander’s advertising (see old posts!!!)

I’m on a GoDaddy email, which may be something to do with it, however it may work for someone else, if not me.

The main thing is that I use c**@***.com for personal and c**.khalvashi@***.com for business, that’s why it’s beyond me! They both go to the same place, however!

Even if you don't have an account with Vodafone, I'm not sure how a monthly email asking you to check your bill is "illegal marketing practices used by Vodafone in an attempt to gain custom"?

Just delete it - if this is the biggest thing you have to worry about in life, I wish I was you!

As already stated, this is not the only problem that I am having with them, it’s more a problem with the fact of there being no assistance in sorting the problem out.

Emails that are starting to total 2/3 a week at the moment is slightly more than a tiny problem, and one that needs to be sorted out.

So what happened to the contract you took out for 12 months with Voda in July?
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

Legally defunct following a few major problems. As I say, if a company wants my custom, they have to work for it. Releasing my address is not going to keep me as a customer for long!

Is that opinion or fact? Did they agree to terminate it?

I have in writing that they are terminating the contract, as in they’ve given me the £37 they were overpaid at some point in the past and agreed that I can leave.

The matter has been taken no further, as it is deemed by myself to be ‘solved’.

I would get it in writing to be honest - no matter how long ago this happened. Could save you some aggro in the future.

Why do you think I forced them to spit it out the printer, after three ’computer says no’ answers to the question? ;)
