Its your money and if you can afford it - then go for it!!

I LOVE my cars (had a few - 26 to be precise! ) but get bored easily so putting all my money into one car would not be ideal for me ;)

Have you tried asking a dealer?

Unfortunately if you read the thread you would realise it is not their money, this is all about borrowing almost a years salary to fund it.

This kind of reckless behaviour at such a young age can financially devastate a person for decades in the future - pop over to the DFW forum to see quite how bad the situations can get!
    Thinking critically since 1996....

As a bit of a car nut, albeit a few years older than you, I do have to agree with the majority of the posters on the thread so far. I've had some nice cars in the past, equal or more than my gross salary at the time, but I can honestly say I'm happier now driving around in an £650 banger equal to between 1 and 2% of salary an I was when it was 100-150%!

If anyone had told me this then mind, I'd not have listened :)

I haven't yet no, because of my situation and I'd like to avoid unnecessary credit searches.

I think I've gathered from this that at the moment it's not realistic, but I presume in a few years time it will be.

But please bear in mind I don't spend my money on TV's or nice clothes or nights out a car is my luxury much like people like fine resteraunts so I think £40,000 for a nice car is quite reasonable, bit I do hear people's concerns.

I agree, I loved my 1.0L 12V R p,ate corsa, but this is one of those things that I promised myself, I'd like to also state that if I bought a £40k car I'd drive it into the ground.

Keeping it running, services merc labour so on and so fourth can run into thousands. Not to mention insurance for a 21 year old in a 40k merc :rotfl:

Now is not your time, when you 45, gray, going bald and cheating on your wife... then maybe :D
If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...

  • Hah, yeah I realise tyres and servicing would be a bomb but as said this is my luxury :)

Surely a Porsche is a mid life crisis car?! Haha

So you have a salary of about £50k and drive around in a car worth £650... Something doesn't quite add up here!

    Why?

Are you one of these people that assume that the value of a car has a direct correlation with the owner's salary? I only use it at weekends and to pop to the shops.

It's comfortable, it drives well, it is utterly reliable and costs peanuts to run. More to the point, I don't actually care about it so I can park in some unsavoury places without worry!

It was an E Class Mercedes, so not a Ferrari or anything.

Looking at second hand A4's in light of the financial query.

Thats so sad. Wanting a Mercedes E class at 20. You'll have plenty of time for that later in life when you're the balding regional sales exec for the Northern area. I'd have some sympathy if it was a ferrari, but any 40k ferrari will eat you alive in maintenance on 35k.

How about a 911 996 for under 15k? Or maybe more sensibly, a sub 10k late 350z?, at your age either of these will see you needing to beat the chicks off with a !!!!!! stick. And thats whats its all about isn't it? You may even enjoy driving them, which is proably more than can be said for your rather soul-less dream car. Really, you will get bored of it.
