Christmas card expense

I hate the clutter of xmas cards. I think they should be something you send to people far away who you won't see over xmas as a way of exchanging seasons greetings, but its not, you have to give the bloody things to everyone & everyone gives them to you!!!!
You've described my feelings exactly!0 -

When I moved 20 years ago, I decided to only send cards to those I wouldn't see over Christmas. So now, I don't give cards to people at work, or local friends who I see over the holidays. I think it's silly to, for instance, go out for a drink with a group of friends and everybody is handing out cards to each other. I only send cards to those people who I want to keep in touch with and who I won't be saying "Happy Christmas" to in any other way. All my local friends know this and are happy. Many didn't even notice at first that I didn't give them cards. I don't think anyone should feel obliged to do anything - find something that suits you!0

Stamps aren't stopping me from sending out Christmas cards - I love receiving them and we're just at the age were we've settled down, and so have our friends so we have actual addresses etc! This year I'm going to look into how I can display Christmas cards - I'll be sad if the tradition is going so that we wont have any at all!0

Making your own greeting cards with cardboard, perhaps a little glitter and pictures glued onto them is an entertaining craft and they can be very personal and beautiful. But all my international Christmas wishes go digital nowadays. I only post a few in within the UK. Locally I hand deliver by bike.0

I hand deliver those that I can, email others, and then post a card to those that don't fit in the first two categories.MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0

I always buy my cards in the january sales, use 2nd class stamps or hand delivery if possible. I love xmas cards though... i always keep last years and cut them into gift tags

I tend to buy my cards in jan sales and hand deliver them!! If I don't see family but other family members do I pass the cards to them to deliver to others when they see them this way I save on postage

Much easier. Only post about 5 cards now (2nd class) and I definitely couldn't hand deliver those!
Everyone else gets hand delivered

I've been looking at making my own Christmas cards, but there's some online websites that offer really good prices - and they're personalised.
I've not made my mind up yet what I'm going to do, but has anyone bought their cards online before?
Also, isn't sending 2nd class the same prices as 1st class last year?

I just send cards to the older gen of our family who live a way away and really appreciate a card and a note about the kids. We give the money saved to the neonatal unit who saved dd1s life and where she was resident over Xmas 5 years ago. Everyone knows and all are fine x0
