hi all quick question:
i bought an iphone 3g about 6 months ago, 16gb model, only gave £50 for it from a family member, really mint condition. battery on its way out now, fair enough its a 3 year old device.
done all the battery saving tips and its dying, and as soon as you plug it in it shows 2/3rds charge most of the time.
any ideas how to get it fixed or where, i'm in manchester and dont fancy doing it myself, anyone got any recommendations?

There's a place I found on facebook called iPhone Repairs & Spares Ltd who quoted me (I think) £35 plus P&P to replace the battery in my iPhone 3GS.
My battery was the same as yours - literally draining in a day until I turned off the "auto brightness" thing. Just check you've done that one too. It made a massive difference and I'm holding off changing the battery now 'cos I'll be upgrading soon.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

i have been quoted £40 in manc, £55 by apple but that means sending away.
waiting till after my holiday, didnt know about auto brightness, my fiance found it in 10 seconds hahaWho remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0 -
I think £40 is good if you can take it in somewhere. My reluctance to use the place I mentioned was because I'd have to post it there and be without a phone for a few days
See if the brightness thing helps. I turned off everything else and it made no difference, but that seemed to really help. Good luck!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

will do thanks i go on holiday in 2 weeks so sending it away through apple is a time expense i dont have and the place in town looks an option as a back up but the brightness thing is a good idea that is being tried as we speakWho remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0 -
Have a look on Youtube for instruction videos. I don't think iPods/iPhones are as easy to open as they once were. I changed the battery in my Nano for £20 from Maplin after the Apple shop quoted £60, 15 mins work first time round. I later did the same with a friends Ipod Classic.0

Have you tried in an Apple store, they may do it there and then if you book a Genius bar appointment so they have a timeslot for you.0 -
YouTube??? Watching those philistines will do more harm than good! For something as major as a battery replacement, tiny thing less than going o an apple store isn't worth it...0
