CathT, thank goodness you noticed the error, my DH may have had heart failure otherwise.
Sepa, now I understand why you thought we had so much cash - thankfully my '000 were very confused ........ A bit like me really.

Hi fellow MFW, it's been a long and difficult day, however, it's nearly over and another is heading over the hill. I have a day tomorrow of back to back calls from 0730 through to 6, and by that I mean I have one 30 minute gap all day. Don't people think I need to go to the loo!
Anyway, as our financials are looking more sorted, I decided to do a kids overhaul too. In the summer we opened a NS&I bond for DD, but DS lucked out. So I have arranged to take a chunk of DS savings and open a Nationwide children's IsA. 3% interest, including 0.90% bonus after year 1. At that point I will transfer it to the next best rate. I think it's a sensible way to get him on the straight and narrow and as CB will end for us in April, I want to make his money work for him.
All in all a good day, but I did forget to contact bank to obtain latest mortgage figs. Will try and do that in my 30 minute gap. I hope DH is working from home tomorrow as he will have to be on tea duty, not that I can drink many as I don't own a comode, BUT I can put my phone on mute.....
So where am I with my thinking, I was mulling over today, whilst driving the car, how much actual capital I will clear per year, and it is circa £60k either with real capital payments or offset. It is a hideously HUGE amount and I feel quite sick thinking about it, but we have a plan and I will update signature to show March 2017 as the new target. Hope DH doesn't want any new shoes, socks, coat etc - I have visions of the old Tommy Cooper sketch - I will have to buy him a hat so he can gaze out of the study window.......
Right, off to bed now - good luck to all with your journeys

Tilly, just a short note to say how much I enjoy reading your diary.... Try not to work too hard tomorrow, sounds like it will be exhausting.
I'm flying overseas with work so will be up bright and early, the silver cloud being that my Xmas starbucks tomorrow will be on expenses!
Best, L1 -
Dear LB, I had better not tell DH you are getting a free Xmas coffee, he seems to be getting withdrawal symptoms. However, he did fill up at Shell the other day to use the Waitro@e discount voucher, and had a free coffee for spending over £25 I think he said. I asked if I could use the coffee for ice cream but that was a definite NO.
That's also reminded me that I used up last of a variety of creams from the fridge, and a carton of good old Ald@ custard, with Camp coffee, posh chocolate drops that you are supposed to melt into hot milk (how much spare time do people think I have..) threw it all into the ice cream maker and 30 mins later Bob's your Uncle - gorgeous
To finish the work saga, my lap top blue screened at the end of the day and I turned it off and gave up for the night. I think it must have been a sign to say, "now Tilly, it's been a long day, kids are out doing stuff, you need to stop, pour a glass of wine (purchased with doubled up MrT vouchers) and chat to DH", or it could just be a coincidence..............who knows.
Onwards and upwards to all

This day of con calls has helped my financial planning. I have plugged new numbers in and are showing December 2016 as our new MF date. :j:j
Without this forum, we would not have been in this position and although things can change, by December 2014 we will have paid off sufficient to rethink our plans again.
Based on current values, property is valued (for both) of circa £900k, so it's a big motivator to get to the point where we have cash to make real decisions for the future. Would certainly allow us to build a new home, and as we have the land already that is a distinct possibility.
Hope all fellow MFWers are having a good day.

Plus we will save circa £25k in interest by overpaying - how fantastic to know that stays in our pocket not going to the bank....:T

Hi Tilly
Just caught up on your diary and its a real interesting read, keep up the good work yow! (Sorry, can't help but imagine you speaking in a strong Sedgley accent as you read posts back to yourself!!) :rotfl:
Its great to read and "sense" your motivation and it can only aid others when they pop in for a read.
We're changing over to an FD Offset in May, which I'm hoping gets agreed in principal next week-ish, can't wait to get cracking on it!!
All the Best

Hi Twiddy, sadly I don't really have an accent. I can't even put it on as I have no skills at all in that department, however, my DH does a marvellous impression and I do laugh when our kids keep asking me to interpret when we go back to he Midlands.
Anyway, our mortgage stands at £307,610 as of today so we are on target to be able to remortgage at £299k using a bit of savings pot to bridge the gap which will be circa £2.5k.
We have received formal FD pack for completion so will do that this evening and it can go back tomorrow, after that its the formal valuation. As I have been very cautious about our value, I am hoping that works out well, but if not we will have to raid savings to bridge the gap.
I have had call after call today, but during the 'bits when I didn't have to speak/think', I have played about with OP calculators - I think DH needs to take me out more. Anyway, lots of fun had, and I can be MF by October 2016, unless DH decides after years of not bothering about cars, that he really does want one sooner. What is it about blokes and cars?
Right now Twiddy, get that diary started up in readiness. We have to live through your journey of applying/getting your mortgage - that's all part of the journey too.
I actually would like to buy property in my old home town (used to be called a village) so will be following Billy's progress with interest.

Afternoon all, roast pork (been in the freezer for weeks so thought it sensible to use and it is the basis for the next 3 meals) in the oven with roast pots, mashed swede and butternut squash, cauli and peas for dinner - finishing with home made icecream. Can't wait.
Now to more important news, likely to only be us newbies that are interested in this, but my first two topcashback credits have come in to the bank. I didn't seem able initially to have amazon vouchers, which I can now, so thats nearly £9 hit the bank today. There should be a further £50 to come but I was expecting to wait for months having seem the TCB thread. So am quite relieved to know the process works and when it comes to insurances etc I will have a go with those as well next year.
My last call has just been cancelled so I am off to prepare veg for dinner. DH wants to go to the movies, so will check what's on. I have registered with three different free movie sites as well, so hopefully I may be able to benefit from them. If you live in London there are far more options and although only 30 mins away by train, factoring train and parking costs removes the benefit of free tickets.
Hope you are all having a tremendous day, ignore the weather, layer up the sweaters as its quite nippy now.

Hi Tilly
I try and make all internet purchases through TopCashback and I have always been paid. I did a lot of Christmas shopping online this year so have 'earnt' around £40 through using the site, some of it has already been paid and the other transactions will be authorised by the end of the year. It's amazing how it all adds up.
