home insurance for clerical business use

hi there

I am looking for a home insurance company which will cover me for working from home and meeting with 2-3 business clients a week at home. Lloyds TSB have said they will not cover me for this. the clients are accompanied at all times.

any help is much appreciated.

    Most insurers will cover clerical business use on a standard household policy. However, the minute you mention business clients/visitors then you are looking at a specialist homeworker policy as your property ceases to be a residential property but a residential and commercial property.

    The company has been dormant for many years but I still have bank statements sent here and have companies house letters, etc come here.

    I only registered a company here when I became an IT contractor back in 1998 and if I was to resume doing this would only be me working in my bedroom doing websites, etc.

    Never to have an business visitors, etc - would this be classed as clerical business use?

    both now in dormant company state or if I was to resume doing websites from home, etc?

    Suggest that you contact a broker to look into this for you.

    You could try Towergate.
    The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

    if you never have visitors and it is clerical only, you are ok - just make sure you have enough cover for equipment etc.

    As indicated above, visitors or/and non clerical work (e.g. woodwork) are the problem. Towergate and some other brokers do well with these specialist risks. You can also try a home worker products as indicated above, most of which come in the commercial rather than personal lines market and as such can be found through brokers doing small business insurance.

    (Lloyds TSB Business insurance does have a home worker product edit:but i now see that relates to the old post!!)

    Yes.

    You can get Home Contents policies that cover your business equipment costs i.e. computers up to £5,000 as well.

    Normal insurance companies do them but it's a case of checking the small print in the policy before signing up if you don't want to use a broker.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

    (If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
