Buying a car abroad is it worth it?

I've been trying out Denmark again for either a new Toyota or a new Citroen, as this worked so well in 2000, but all of the dealers who have replied to my emails have said it can't be done any more. This surprised me, as I thought there was some EU law that upheld your right to buy your specified goods anywhere in the EU.
Can anyone put me wise, please, or does anyone have any recent successful car importing success from Europe?0
