Buying a car abroad is it worth it?

Motorpoint don't seem to be bothering with importing cars at the moment - that should give you a clue!
If you want to spend approx £12-15k on something that has dropped like a stone, try a high-spec Insignia from Motorpoint?British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
also you will have to apply for import insurance which will cost you more for the rest of the lfie of the car and wil be harder to sell than domestic cars when it comes to selling it.0

[from Denmark]
I don't suppose the same advantages would attach to buying S/H, as I assume the original high taxes would be paid just the once.
Part of the Danish registration tax can be reclaimed if a secondhand car is exported from there, at something proportional to the tax rate and current value, but maybe it's a bit complicated to bother with, except for people who have lived there for a while and are leaving.0 -

I have decided though and I am buying a 3 yr old Insignia 2.0 CDTi on autotrader cost £25,000 new - 3 yr old £7,500/8,000.“Having, first, gained all you can, and, secondly saved all you can, then give all you can"....John Wesley

Which funnily enough is what I was going to say yesterday on this thread...
Why buy brand new with all the hassle of importing to save only a couple of thousand, and then have a car that is valued less by insurers and traders. When you could do what I do, and buy 3 years old saving 60% off new price, and have a low mileage clean -as good as new- interior car?
And, as I edited into the post above, if you buy from Europe what are going to do if you need it repaired under SOGA Sale Of Goods Act - this has to be done between you and the retailer and your retailer will be in Holland or Denmark.0 -

I had no problem with my Toyota on that front. I bought it in Denmark in 2000, and the 3-year warranty was honoured by Toyota dealers in the UK.0 -
