Sky - cancel or not?

Hi all, I've been with sky for 9 years. I only have the tv, although I have sky hd, movies, sports FULL PACKAGE and multiroom. Also have ESPN and MANU TV.
I'm moving house at the end of november..... now do I cancel my sky (not in a contract) or do I move it with me? Or do I cancel and restart at the new address?
Just wondering what is more beneficial financially and new boxes etc. Have had current hd box for about 3 years.

Tell them you want to cancel as you can't afford it anymore or you're thinking of going to Virgin, and see if they offer you a discount to stay. Their usual offering is 50% for 12 months.
If they say yes, you will be in a 12 month contract so you will have to ring them back in a couple of days and tell them you are moving and need their moving service (usually free).
If they don't offer you anything, then cancel and within a few weeks they will be ringing and offering you a discount.
If you play it right, you WILL get a discount"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
I phoned, told them i needed to cancel as with cost of moving home, xmas etc cannot afford it. and they said, ok, all done!!! arghhhhhhh, the hubby is gonna kill me!!! lol0

Oh well, these things happen.
Once your in your new home, ring them and ask if they've any special offers for new customers. If the sub is currently in your name, do it in hubby's name so he'd be a brand new customer.
That's what I did and I'm on 50% discount for my package and HD for £2 per month, all for 12 months.
The other way of tackling it is to approach Virgin, tell them you're with Sky and what offers can they give you if you swap to them."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. Same happened to me. But do you know what, I don't miss it, and I'm saving £70/month. I was initially looking for a 50% deal, but I'm not bothered any more.
Also, thanks to a tip off this forum, I swapped the sky card in my box with my old blue sky card and it now works as a PVR box :beer:0 -
I'm really surprised at the response from Sky. I have just cancelled ours as our HD box has completely died and it's only 18 months old. They wanted to charge us £65 for an engineer to come and tell us we'd have to pay £200 for a new one... So we took the decision to give recordable HD Freesat a go. When I phoned Sky they offered me a free engineer, free new box plus reduced Sky package cost but we'd made our minds up and cancelled. Just need to find the right Freesat box now!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

I have cancelled my Sky subscription, been with them 20 years and when I rang to cancel they offered me £10 off. Told them I was going to Virgin and they were not bothered. Have now gone over to Virgin and saved my self £40 A month as well. Also I am getting a lot more with Virgin than Sky, 3 Tivo boxes, 50 meg BB and XL Phone. Also getting movies as well which I did not have with Sky. Got a phone call off Sky on Thursday trying to offer me a deal, but told them to stuff it.:pB&SC No. 298
