Does anyone have any blessed idea why this message pops up every time I logon to yahoo or hotmail and when I view mail and delete mail or refresh page everytime - anyone having this problem? It's so annoying :o I'm guessing this problem has been ever since I downloaded the IE 7. Could you please suggest a way to get rid of them.

just in case the link isn't clear - this is the pop up box on top of the email that appears

You could always download and install messenger live have you got service pack 2 has this problem just recently started are you using an old version of messenger?

Oh hang on thats just that particular website "MSN" asking if you want to run messenger as you are signing in with your passport credentials and MSN uses the live sign in now instead of using older versions of MSN messenger its just basically saying do you want to chat with friends, but you can stop that appearing its all about active X which is a pain in the behind Tools/Internet Options...", "Security" tab, "Custom Level" (for Internet), and set "Download signed ActiveX controls" to Disable. Now you have no chance of accidentally installing ActiveX controls and the browser is still usable

I've disabled as you suggested Tools/Internet Options...", "Security" tab, "Custom Level" (for Internet), and set "Download signed ActiveX controls" - it's just the same with the pop ups - it's annoying in that the page shifts up and down everytime you move to a different page. It doesn't seem like an msn problem - the same pop up appears on yahoo as well and I have messenger live anyway.
  • Use firefox instead?
Nothing to see here, move along.
  • The popup is add on Windows Live Messenger web. It allows you to IM via the Hotmail site to friend on Messenger so abit like the desktop verison.

I wasn't too comfortable with firefox - perhaps as a last resort I might try that. Thanks

But the pop up doesn't appear just on hotmail - it appears when I logon to yahoo as well - do you all have this problem?

this is the yahoo pop up

Dont allow that to run. I would not. I only allow popups to active if I know who they are from.

That's a different message in the second example, isn't it just the popup blocker in IE stopping popups from appearing, letting you know it's blocked it and asking if you want to run the popup?

If you right click on it does it give you an option to not show that message again?
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

It seems to me that the OP is not very ICT, so just let him and others call it popups without having to go into and explain it.
  • I have allowed the Windows Live Messenger browser extension add on, it's nothing to worry about as the Hotmail website is Microsoft owned so can be trusted not to be spyware etc.

You can allow it to install, and then enable/disable it as you choose from Tools/Manage add ons.

I don't use yahoo mail (just messenger) so can't really comment on that one but would imagine that's safe too...there would be big noises on these boards if these 2 particular active x add ons were causing anything to worry about.

I dont use Hotmail anymore because I have been beta testing Windows Live Mail from the start. So Windows Live Mail does not have this popup.
