Massive 42,000 vodafone bill, please help

I had a data sim set up in a modem to monitor my equipment on a job. I just got a bill for 42,000 for 3 months. Clearly someone else has been downloading stuff for months on it.
The broker is wireless logic. They won't help me to contest the charges with vodafone. If I have to pay I'll lose my house.
Can anyone help?

What were the terms of the contract? (Anything in there about them notifying you of excess usage, or limiting the connection for excess usage? If there is, and they haven't, then you may have a case to push back on this charge).
Was the modem secured? How could someone else hijack it?
What was the expected data usage for the task in hand? Was this calculated and expressed to the broker/Vodaphone when engaging the contract?
This post may get better responses on the Consumer Rights board.0 -
£14,000 worth of data each month for 3 months??? Hold cr*p!!!
Was your modem secure? If not... ouch.0 -
Are we talking about 42,000 GBP here?
I've heard of cases of people going abroad and coming home to find roaming data charges running into the thousands but not forty two thousand pounds.
On the one hand, you're (presumably) liable for the charges since you (or someone else) used the data, if the charging is accurate. It doesn't matter who used it as you're the contracted party and bill payer.
Can you verify the data charges? Are they likely to be right?
The first thing I'd insist on is a breakdown of what the traffic was and when so you can verify.
The second point is that, frankly, no consumer (is it a consumer or business contract..?) generally has £42000 just knocking around in their bank account or is able to raise that, so the provider needs their head examined if they think that's just going to clear normally on a direct debit mandate.
In the cases above involving huge roaming charges, the provider can sometimes be made to negotiate. After all, there's the adage "If you owe someone a pound, it's your problem. If you owe then £42,000 it's their problem". Up to a point, anyway.0 -
....were you using this in a modem or a mobile hotspot mode?0

if you take it at 50p a MB you used 84GB of data in 3 months, what were you doing?! streaming video?
also how come the OP hasn't come back yet for more details, it's been 2 days since they posted, you would think they want this sorting.0 -
