It depends on the firm they are recruiting for. I have known one firm who didn't want anyone who was currently unemployed to be put forward. .
Thats NUTS. They can start right away rather than having to work any notice period etc..

  • The advice is......

Speak to someone who can give you honest advice on if there are things you need to improve on. Whether it's your CV, interview technique etc.

If you are coming across as negative or not interested enough - you need to address why and that would only be you who can do that. Perhaps you should make an appointment with the Dr to speak about depression? (and no, if you are depressed you dont' always realise it yourself).

No-one said that you smell, it was mearly suggested that perhaps you wear too much perfume trying to impress, we've all done it where we think oh just a little bit more but actually it's too overpowering to other people.

No you don't need to dress like a model but are you dressing for the role? Do you wear a smart suit or do you wear something smart casual? maybe smart casual is a little too casual or over-dressed for the roles you are going for. Do you wear too much make up?

You said you don't go out with a hair out of place - are you coming across as spending too much time focusing on appearance?
People on here are trying to give you advice, no we don't know all the answers and our advice might not be right, we don't profess to be experts.

We all know how tough things are, I was made redundant in 2009, I have been lucky enough to get temp roles since then but I don't know how much longer I can get them for. My current role is finishing in three weeks and I have to find something else so I KNOW how tough it is, the company I had most of my temp roles with has a recruitment freeze so I know at the moment I can't even fall back on them but I keep trying and yes, it is annoying when people say it's easy when they have no clue. I get down days about it, but how does that help? if you go to an agency or an interview with a face like a wet fish no-one is going to

In 1987 things were much different, there were a lot more jobs around. Even going back say 5 years, you knew you could say no to a temp role because 5 minutes later there would be another one, a better one.

In 1987 you said you were 17, now you are 41? Employers do look at age, we know they shouldn't but they do. A 17 year old, they can mould to how they want, they can pay less. But perhaps the 17 year old you had a more positive outlook?

Yes things are tough and we all worry about things but what you have to remember is there are people far worse off who would like that to be their only problem.

and............ if you have an agency with that attitude, then use a different one.

@ Red_Elle. Thank you, that will be appreciated. I'll be in touch.

To be fair, I did say that a thought this was the case from something else the OP said. I may not be correct on that one. But I still can't see how someone so perfect can be out of work for this length of time if they aren't doing something wrong.

Theres lots of reasons including employer prejudice.(for whatever reason - some times the most odd) I'm not a dollybird nor young and TBH that can go against you for example..plus these days employers will employ the young as they are paid a lower NMW rate...not always a good thing as we find in my place of employment

Where did I say I was perfect? Those who do not know me have deemed me UNemployable and that's where I will stay.

    thanks all.

People have been trying to help you here, they have all come up with suggestions of perhaps why you are having problems, no we don't know you personally which is why they are suggestions - could it be this? could it be that? Perhaps ..... but each time you have given some sort of backlash and turned it in to 'people are having a dig at you'.

If you are being like that with agencies or potential employers you are giving off vibes that you don't believe in yourself so why should they believe that you can do it?
